How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my daily life is that my children have been able to study with minimal interruption as it had been before. This would not have been possible had it not have been for GD. With my paltry income from subsistence farming and casual jobs and business, meeting all the family needs has been challenging for me. Both daily household needs are my priority thus, I spend much of my income leaving me with little to spend on my children's education. I am now glad since I can concentrate on other income-generating activities whenever I get money because I paid my children fee. I am so happy to see study since I believe upon completing their studies they will have better lives and will be in a better position to give back to us.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well in uplifting our lives which were miserable before enrollment. We have been able to provide for our families effectively, purchasing livestock as assets and most importantly, building better iron-roofed houses thus enjoying good shelter. To me, GiveDirectly is organized, firm and fair on their duties and more so I love their culture of giving the recipients a chance to decide on what to spend money on.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent a large portion of the second transfer to purchase building materials which include iron sheets, nails and building poles in order to build a new house. My intention was to build a new decent and spacious house to live in with my family comfortably. I have been living in a small house that was in a bad state and due to lack of resources, I was not able to renovate it or build a new one. I am grateful to GiveDirectly because their financial support has enabled me to acquire building materials which if I was to buy them at my own cost, then I wouldn't have afforded. I am happy to have completed my house construction and currently living in a decent house comfortably. I spent the remaining amount to cater for the needs of my household and other expenses.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my life is the far I am in the process of building a new house. We are unemployed couple hence we primarily depend on subsistence farming and casual jobs to raise a living for our family. We have always spent most of our surpluses on our children school fees. It has been our daily goal to have a bigger and more decent house to cater for the growing family needs since the one we had has been too small hence making it uncomfortable to stay in with my children. I used the entire transfer to purchase building materials and am now certain with the quantity of materials I have that soon I will have my house built. I am soon going to give my children a comfortable space to have their private studies, to live in and a decent house to comfortably welcome my visitors whenever I have unlike before.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I saw the transfer at around eight o'clock after we had taken our breakfast. I had gone to pick my phone in my bedroom ready to leaves for my daily chores. On checking it, I was amazed by amessage notification from Mpesa that I had received money from GD. I broke the news to my husband and he was too happy.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I have children in various schools and being unemployed, raising their school fee has not been easy since I majorly depend on low paying casuals jobs. We had built a small house when we were a young couple with the hope of having a bigger and more decent later but that I had never been true due to lack of enough resource to cater for fast-growing family needs. It has been uncomfortable living in this small house and even ruining my children future by not giving them a good place to take their homework and private studies a goal I had admired for my children. I used the entire transfer to purchase building material-waste quarry, timber, nails and stones and am now certain that soon my goal of having a bigger and more decent house will be achieved. I am soon going to have a more comfortable place to live in, better environment for my children to study in and to welcome my visitor whenever I have unlike before.

What is the happiest part of your day?
After preparing breakfast in the morning,I set out to perform light household chores.I cannot do any strenous jobs.During the day while I work in my compound I am happiest because I get to meet and interract with people
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have had various complications during the births of my children. The ceaserian sections I had have made my body weak and hence I cannot perform many duties.I have always wished to seek further medical assistance, but due to recent harsh climatic conditions that have been unfavourable to farming activities,we do not have enough to meet our needs as well as get medical care. This is the biggest hardship I have faced.
