"I now have a new decent and iron roofed house to live with my family. It would have taken me many years to build a bigger and spacious house considering my lowly financial status. The previous house was in a very bad condition, it was leaking during rains. I am not worried anymore when it rains because I have a good house to live in. Apart from this, I also have a pair of oxen that will help me in doing my farming productively."

"I spent the money I received from GiveDirectly on buying a cow and build a house. I decided to buy a cow in order to produce milk for household consumption and for sale to make an income. I had none at all and therefore I used to buy it for household consumption. It was very expensive so I used to spend a lot of money to get little that was not even sufficient. As for the house, the one that I used to live on was an old grass-thatched house that was too small for my family. I build a longer-lasting one made of an iron roof. Then paid school fees for my children and bought for the household."

"I was happy because I saw that would finally have a well spacious decent home. My children would no longer walk at night in order to study or squeeze themselves in our neighbor's homes. I no longer feel like a bother to them. It feels good to sleep will all family members in one roof."

"My house looks new by look at the roof but super structure-wise, it's not conducive for my safety because the backside is collapsing. My wish has been to repair it but due to financial constraints, I have never managed to do this. The cash grant from GiveDirectly that I am about to receive has renewed my hopes since I am now confident that I will be able to reinforce it using stones and possibly cementing the floor. To do this, I intend to use the utmost $300 of my first transfer. I also plan to start livestock keeping as my long term project and my intention is to begin with 6 goats at $30 each. The other remaining amount will support my grand children's education and other basic needs like food."

"The biggest difference in my daily is that I now have clean drinking water for my family. I used to buy from water supply company and this was quite expensive. Other than that, the fact that I did not have a water storage forced me to buy a small amount of water and we could deplete it before the next round. I am glad that I am now harvesting water from my roof and keeping it in the tank. I now spent no amount of money to purchase water. I am also glad that I now own my own cow. I have always wanted to have and rear my own cow but the many responsibilities such as school fees and family medical bills could not allow me."

"The biggest difference in my life because of these transfers is that I have a permanent house. In my life, with the kind of income I had, I never knew I could have a permanent house ever. I knew I could manage an iron-roofed house but did not know I could get a permanent house because of my small income from casual work in the village. After paying school fees for my children, the next thing I wanted to solve is building a decent house. I used the transfers to buy building materials such as iron sheets, timber and cement which I used with the ones I had to put up a permanent house. Anytime I look at the house, I see GD."

"I spent my transfer on buying building materials such as iron sheets, timber which I added to the ones I had bought with part of my first transfer. I have been living in a small grass-thatched house and I thought it wise to use the transfers to upgrade to an iron-roofed house. I also used part of the transfer on paying school fees for my children who are in primary school. My desire is to always pay their fees in advance so that they may not be sent home for fees arrears throughout their life. The rest of the transfer I use on buying four goats as an investment for my family. My desire is to have an investment which I can turn to when I have a financial crisis without having to seek help or borrow. I also bought food to boost the little stock we had left in the house."

"I spent my transfer on buying building materials such as iron sheets, timber and nails which I used on building my new house. I have been living in a grass thatched house for the past two years. I felt it was time to upgrade to the iron-roofed house through GD transfers. I used the money to pay the mason who constructs the new house. The remaining I used to pay school fees for my children to reduce the balance they had in school. I am glad since then I have never received any letter from school about fees arrears. I also bought food with the transfer soi that we may not lack what to eat in the house.I would not be happy when we do not have food in the house."

"I used part of my transfer to buy building materials and used the remaining amount to buy clothes and food for the family. I had always wished that I could get enough money to build a brand new iron roofed house but the little amount of money that I got from my casual works and subsistence farming could not allow me accumulate enough and build a decent house. Receiving this transfer enabled me to buy iron sheets and other building mateials that will see my family live in a new house soon. The house that we were living in is a very small grass thatched house that had its roof leaking. Living in such a delapidated structure will now be a thing of the past; thanks to GiveDirectly transfers."

"For the past two years, I have been living in a grass thatched house with a leaking roof. It has been a struggle, especially during the rainy season because whenever it rains when my family and I are away, there is always water in the house which has been very destructive on my properties. As a result, I have had to lose many items due to rains and most nights too we don't sleep comfortably. This is why I had plans of building a new house but due to low income from casual work of ploughing on other people's farms, I was not able to achieve the goal. This is why I used my transfers to buy building materials such as iron sheets, nails and timber which I am currently using in building a new house. This will help me solve the issue once and for all."
