Duncan
received a $541 initial payment.
"I spent my first transfer to invest in my two existing businesses which were not doing so well, because I lacked enough funds to restock my businesses. I was engaged in poultry farming, and I also owned a retail shop that stocked commodities like flour and sugar. I spent my transfers to add more stock to my shop and to buy feeds and medicine for my chicken. I invested in these two businesses because they are both profitable businesses and I can sustain my family with profits from the businesses. Chicken also take a short time to mature, which should bring me back profit within a short time."

Asha
received a $538 initial payment.
"I've been buying milk from my neighbours daily and this was expensive for me. The huge bills would sometimes force me to cut the supply of milk to my household. Am happy that the transfer has enabled me to buy three cows which will provide milk for my household and also I will be able to sell to earn an income. This will also help me reduce budgetary expenses for my family. I am also hopeful that they will multiply as time goes by and in the near future, I will be owning a herd and which will create an opportunity for me to sell them at a profit and invest in other viable projects. I also purchased some medicines to keep a medical kit for them to treat them against some common infections and reduce chances of incurring other medicinal expenses later on."

Winnie
received a $526 second payment.
"In my view, GiveDirectly does a commendable work in a manner that I think is good. I do not see something that GiveDirectly may not be doing well. GD stands out for me from other charity organizations who also do a good job. Being given cash however empowered me to buy what I needed. I may receive a material thing such as seeds for planting but maybe what I really need at that time is medicine. The seeds are good but they end up not meeting my medical need. So I appreciate the approach GD took to send us cash and allowed us to decide what to spend on."
