Kalume
received a $549 initial payment.
"Through the GiveDirectly transfer, I was able to purchase a power generator so as to help me in pumping enough water for watering my plants. I was previously using buckets and my bicycle to carry water which was tiresome and time-consuming. With the generator, watering will be easy and time-saving. To me, this is the biggest difference I have experienced so far in my life."

"I spent part of my first transfer to buy a pair of oxen to help me improve my farming practices for better harvests. Previously I was using farm tools that were not efficient and I would manage to till a small piece of land, and for me to cultivate a large piece of land, then I would hire from my neighbours who had the oxen. hiring was expensive to me and at times I left a large piece of acreage uncultivated. I am happy that through the pair of oxen I acquired, then I will be able to cultivate more land for better harvests. Also, the pair will help me in fetching water from long distances for domestic use. I also bought a medicine kit for my cows so as to treat them in case of any infections and diseases. I also purchased three goats which I am certain that once they reproduce and increase in number, then I will be able to sell them to meet any expenses that fall due."

Chepngetich
received a $23 twelfth payment.
"My life in the last four months has really changed for the better. I am now actively engaged in poultry keeping which has seen me have more income for my family's needs. I have also been able to save up over the last four months to be able to buy a water tank putting to an end the long struggle of travelling for a long distance in search of water at a nearest stream. I have also been able to pay school fees much more easily than I did four months a go. My family is generally a happier family and this gives me so much joy as well."

"Immediately I received my transfer I decided to take some money to the church because it wasn't my will to benefit from give directly but God's.
Since we have a problem of drought in this dry season, I used some money to procure a water pump for irrigating the fields in order to increase food production.
I spent some money to plaster my house because it wasn't a complete house. I also helped my daughters with little money each since they need financial support from me."

Pamela
received a $550 initial payment.
"My past life was full of frustration compared to the current one. I could sometimes go without any meal for the whole day, but now, I take my meals at the right time and eat what I want. It reached a time when I could quarrel with my daughter in-law to fetch for me water, now I have a peaceful mind and respect prevailed amongst us. This will help me in prevention of diseases associated with contaminated water like typhoid, cholera and dysentery."

Henry
received a $23 twelfth payment.
"My new goal is to buy a metallic stand for my water tank. I did not want it to sit on the ground because it would not last for a long period of time. I have already bought the tank, therefore, the stand is my newest goal at the moment. It will prevent the tank from being pricked easily or even rotting when it comes into contact with the ground."

Kristina
received a $23 twelfth payment.
"The additional goal for my life in the next four months is to buy some bags of cement and a tonne of sand which I will use to renovate my house. Its earthed floor is currently in a bad condition. I believe that once I cement it, it will look better and nice. I will no longer have to spray water on my house's floor to reduce dust hence it will be more habitable."
