"The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months is that my family can now eat well. We have never slept hungry ever since I started receiving the monthly transfer. Initially, we would sleep hungry after a long day of searching and walking long distances especially during the spells of hunger. Most of the time we would just drink water and sleep. Casual jobs are normally unreliable and when I could get one, I could use the money to pay school fees and ended up remaining with nothing. We lived a life of despair and misery. I am glad that of late I have prioritized my needs by making sure that I put food on the table first and the other needs to follow next."

"Receiving the monthly transfers has improved my life in many ways in that through the transfers I'm now proud I no longer face challenges of obtaining water because I have enough water storage containers. In addition to that, I have been able to afford a full day's meal and decent school attires for my children. This makes so proud as a parent."

"The moment I received the recent transfer I was so happy. It was around 8 am when I saw the Mpesa message. I was on my way to the dam to fetch water so I decided to go back home and celebrate with my family because to me it was like a miracle. It was my first time receiving such a huge amount of money."

"In the next six months of my life, I expect to have saved enough money and constructed a kitchen. Currently, this is my first priority because of the mess I am already in. With the sheep in the same room where I cook makes it unbearable. Food is one of the most delicate things to handle. This situation messes up with the hygiene of the area I do my cooking which would risk our health and life in general. Cleaning the area on a daily basis considering how far the water point makes life more difficult. That is why I couldn't think of something else first before making sure I had a separate structure to cook in."

"Having come from a humble background, I have always lived in a condition where insufficiency is the order of the day. Money, food, water, and other resources have always been hard to get. In a family of many, sharing food had been a problem since the little that we were getting were never enough for us. I thank God that GiveDIrectly came in to save us from that insufficiency; at the moment we are enjoying enough food both for the household and some surplus to be sold. This so far is the biggest difference in my daily life. Eating to the full and being ready to work in order to generate more is so encouraging. All thanks go to GiveDirectly for the support they are giving us."

"As a farmer who specializes in vegetable production, my biggest concern is water given that climatical conditions here are unpredictable and in most cases, drought situation is witnessed. At the moment, I use a hand driven cart to fetch 24 Jerricans (480 litres) of water daily to irrigate my crops whenever there are no rains. Receiving this money, therefore, means I will be able to rest from this laborious work because I am going to purchase a motorcycle to assist in ferrying water. This will boost my overall yield given that all my energy will be focused on farm work. Again I will use my motorcycle in ferrying passengers and that will earn me an extra income. Basically, that is what receiving this money means to me."

"When I wake up in the morning, I prepare my children to school. After they have gone, I also walk to the nearby pan to fetch water. When I am back, I am still forced to go and work at my farm, something that makes me feel so exhausted in the afternoon hours. In the evening, I prepare my family's dinner and share together. It is at this time when I get ample time with my children which are my source of happiness. Therefore, I consider evening as the happiest part of my day."

"The biggest difference in my daily life ever since I started receiving transfers from Give Directly is that I a more optimistic in life. The fact that I was able to buy the water tank after a very long time gives me hope that it is possible to acquire anything in life. Even though I haven't collected water at the moment I am assured that I will be using fresh and clean water after every rainy season. I am even happier when I remember that I will never have to go far carrying heavy jerrycans in search or water."

"We had been enjoying the use of clean water all along until when the construction of a road around our home started. The machinery which was used in the construction destroyed all the pipes which were conveying water to our doorsteps. This forced us to source water from the far distance rivers which were consuming most of our daily time. On receiving the transfers, I decided to obtain a large water tank holding 5000 Liters of water so that I could use as a reservoir. Although I am still paying on down payment for it, it is so far the biggest difference in my daily life since I am no longer going to the river to fetch water."

"The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months is that I am now able to easily take care of my needs. Recently, I was able to buy a water tank. I have always wanted to replace the spoilt one but due to lack of enough finances, I am always forced to use jerrycans. They were usually not very effective but I am happy that I was finally able to buy a big tank that would hold several liters of water. Apart from that, I easily pay my monthly contribution to our merry-go-round. I used to worry on where to get money for the merry-go-round contributions on and sometimes submitting it on time was not possible. Life has become simpler and easier because I don't overwork my self with casual jobs in order to meet these needs."
