"When I wake up in the morning, I prepare my children to school and after they have gone, I am also required to fetch water from a tap that is three kilometers away from my home. On arrival, I am still forced to go and collect the coconut wine from different tapers. I come home in the afternoon to prepare a lunch meal for my children before I leave to my business site. I usually stay at my camping site up to ten o'clock when I come back home to rest. This is the moment I get ample time to rest and therefore, I consider it being the happiest part of my day."

"Due to unpredictable rain patterns and insufficient rains in general, farming has become a game of chance in our area and starvation and hike in food prices a common thing. I live near a river and my aim is to make use of it by investing in irrigation where I can farm even during the dry season. My goal, therefore, is to buy a water pump with the money I will receive from the savings in the merry-go-round I am currently saving in to facilitate this. With that, I will cultivate enough food for my own use and for sale to earn an extra source of income."

"I am a farmer, I normally plant vegetables mostly. It has been my source of income for a long time now. It is a good business although there have been a few challenges. Being that they are very perishable they at times get wasted because I don't have the necessary equipment to store them. At time they burn due to the extreme weather patterns that come as a result of climate change. Therefore for the next four months, I have a new goal of purchasing a water pump which will help me in solving these challenges."

"I am planning to purchase a super drum. At my village water is a rare commodity. I am hoping to purchase a super drum to harvest rainwater that can be of great help during dry seasons. This will also save me the cost of purchasing water."

"I have always desired to practice dairy farming for long, an activity that is resourceful in our locality since the climatic condition around this place favours livestock keeping. I will therefore buy two dairy cattle which will boost my financial status as a widow who depends on her children for upkeep. I will then build myself a new kitchen since the one i have is too old and leaks in water whenever it rains. The remaining part of my transfer will go to buying furniture and new beddings, thanks to GD."

"I spent part of the first transfer on buying building materials, I used 17000 to buy twenty pieces of iron sheets. This was for the construction of my new house. I used to have a very small house that was in poor condition and it could not accommodate us all. I also managed to pay school fees for my children. I am glad I managed to pay the school on time since this is what normally frustrates me the most. I spent the remaining amount of money, to buy a bicycle which is helping me with fetching water since our water point is very far. I am now relieved because the bicycle will be of great help because I will not have to walk the long distances"

"Repairing my house, construction of toilet and buying of water storage tank and sheep is what receiving this money means to me. Currently, I depend on my husband who is doing taxi work at Mombasa but his monthly earnings cannot fully support our basic needs. When I receive the GiveDirectly aid, I plan to use my first transfer to repair my house because the current roof is leaking and purchasing of water storage tank that will help me to store water during dry seasons. With my second transfer I will spend it on construction of toilet to improve our environmental hygiene and also to buy sheep. This will reshape our life for the better and hence the change that I have longed for."

"My life is different in that, I have been in position to renovate my house and to construct an iron roofed house for my son currently left with fitting doors and windows. In addition, I was able to acquire house hold items (big saucepan, 2 water drums, a matress and beddings). Before receiving this transfer, I didn't have hope of renovating my house and acquire the items I am now having because the little money I got was spent for buying food."

"Since I am a house wife, I spend the better part of my day at home. When I wake up in the morning, the work I do is to fetch water from a tap that is two kilometers away from my home. When I am back home, I prepare our first meal for the day that we share together with my family. It is at this time when I get ample time to rest and chat with my mother in-law when sharing our meals. Therefore, I consider afternoon as the happiest part of my day."

"GiveDirectly really did us a great job in our village which left us praising God for the great answer He gave us over our prayers. We are still thankful and feeling that it was really a great idea and decision for GiveDirectly to have worked in our village. On the other hand, we sometimes feel that it would have been good if it would have established public projects which includes water projects. This is because everybody would have benefited from the project and no one would be watching other members of the village enjoying the money when they did not receive the transfers."
