"Owning a shop business is my big ambition in my life. As at today being forced to prepare and chapati in order to support my family basic needs. This activity gains me very little cash. My husband is a water vendor in Mombasa a job that is unpredictable. I am planning to spend my first transfer to start a shop business at home which will keep me busy also it will act as a long term source of income."

"I go to my farm at around 7am in the morning.I work there till noon. After having lunch I feed my cow then go and fetch water from the nearby river.I then relax around my compound as I see what I can do,for example fence repairs. The happiest part of my day is in the evening because it is usually time to relax after a busy day. "

"Over tha past four months, I have managed to buy a few household items such a cupboard and a water storage barrel. Theses items may not be much but they are of great importance to me. The barrel now helps me to store more rainwater, therefore, I don't have to go to the river as often as I did before while the cupboard has been important in keeping my utensils safe and away from dust. It has also improved the general look of my living room which now does not look as empty as before."

"Quality education for my children is my greatest desire in life. Currently, I am a housewife and I depend on my husband as the only breadwinner who is a water vendor, a job that pays him less than a dollar per day. The income from this activity is very little to fully cater for our family's basic needs like food and clothing not including the cost of my children's education. My first priority when I receive this transfer will be to clear school fee arrears. I am hoping to make my children settle in school and this will have a positive results in their studies."

"I have longed to own oxen to facilitate my farming because using hoes in and out of season was tiresome and ineffective and I could only manage a smaller acreage. Due to this, when I received my first transfer, I bought the pair of oxen to curb this and enhance my farming during the planting season. In addition, I also acquired a bicycle that will help me carry water for domestic use because water shortage has forced us to travel long distances to reach the water pans. Having a bicycle will relieve us of the stress of travelling for long distance in search of water. I spent the remaining amount to pay for my children's school fees and did shopping on foodstuffs and other household needs."

"Inadequate finances is our major challenge as a family. I am a traditional doctor and my husband is a water vendor, both which are not reliable sources of income thus cannot sufficiently meet our needs of food and education for the children. For example, a whole month can go by without me getting any clients and therefore have to rely on my husband who makes around 4 dollars a day, with which we will buy food, pay school fees, pay his rent in Mombasa where he works etc. With all this financial burden, we cannot even afford to repair our roof that was partly blown off by strong winds almost six months ago. "Receiving this money means food and water security in my house. I will invest in oxen and an ox plough to expand my farming so I can cover a bigger area when tilling the land and also use modern methods such as planting hybrid seeds to boost my harvest. I will also purchase water storage tanks so I can tap rainwater whenever it rains thus ensuring I do not lack water for use. "

"Afternoon is the happiest part of my day because this is that moment whereby I am less active. In the morning hours, I mostly engage in household chores and most important look for food. It is also at this part when I ensure I draw enough water from the water pan, a very back-breaking exercise. In the evening, activities are also there and by the time the day ends, I am already exhausted. I enjoy resting and catching up with my peers in the afternoon and that makes it the favorite part of the day."
