Bihija
received a $539 initial payment.
"The transfer has enabled me to buy more stock of medicines to my pharmacy which I am currently operating. This has brought a bigger difference from my daily sales since I managed to purchase different kinds of quality medicines. The profits that I used to get previously was not enough to purchase the different kinds of medicines, as compared to the financial support that I have received from GiveDirectly. I am now looking forward to getting higher returns from the additional stock."

But I am really happy and grateful since the transfers have facilitated this medicine. I am now better and my health has improved a bit. It has put a smile in my heart and face."

"I spent KES 15000 of my second transfer to buy a cow. I had none of these livestock but through this transfer, I am now boasting of owning this cow. I am hoping that with time, it will reproduce and have many of them. I will sell the offspring and raise more cash in the future and invest in business. I also spent a portion of the transfer to pay for my son's medical bills and buying medicines. He had been ill for sometime now and meeting the full cost was difficult to me due to financial constraints. I am grateful to GiveDirectly because he was treated and now recuperating well. I also bought some ironsheets and building poles to construct a house for my children. I am happy that they will no longer be seeking shelter from the neighborhood. I also did some shopping on the amount that remained. I bought some foodstuffs for my family and paying for other household expenses."

John
received a $466 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is having what to do inform of grazing my cow that will in the near future give me milk when it calves. Together with my vulnerable mother, we shall use the milk both commercially and subsistencely. This will raise us money that will be able to cover a few costs and also have a proper balanced diet meals.
In addition to this, I am deligthed that I used this money to purchase my medicine that has helped me for quite some time now with out falling sick because I take it on time. Prior to getting this money, when sickness stricked, I could take like a week or so to get better because I had no money or even means to get money to buy the medicine."

"I have been grappling with an asthmatic condition for the last 4 decades. The disease has worsened with my age and has continued to become more severe especially currently during the rainy season. As an 80 year old depending on 2 litres a day from my one dairy cow, the dues I get cannot sustain a monthly demand for medicine and doctor's appointment. My biggest worry is that I am going to collapse of chest seizure one day due to the lack of medicine. "

This has hindered my ability to work.I struggle doing physical jobs and this has been a challenge since I am a farmer.I have three children to take care of together with my aging father.I feel much better now but I have to be consistent with my medication."
