"In July of this year, we got to buy a water tank. I together with my brother and mother we put together our cash transfers and spent on buying a water tank. We had no proper water storage for drinking water which would for my mother to travel for long distance to fetch water from a nearby stream more often. This was a tedious task for her and we opted to make her work easier so that she would have time for other household chores. I am now happy that she can now rest as she can have water right at the doorstep."

"In the last four months, I feel the biggest difference in my daily life is the empowerment that I receive from GiveDirectly. I am an unemployed mother with household responsibilities to take care of. Life had been challenging attending to each and every need with the limited resource in our family. Currently, I am glad that I have been able to provide for my family with ease. We are always assured of our daily expenditures since I have money from GiveDirectly to add to the little from my subsistence farming income. I have been able to buy a donkey that has greatly change my daily life. I no longer struggle to much-fetching water from the river like before when I could retire to be bed totally exhausted."

"I do farming to support my family. Even though I practice mixed farming, I prefer tea farming since it has a higher income in my area. I had a small piece of land that couldn't allow me to expand my tea farming. With my ambitious to expand this, I took a loan from a table banking we had started with other villagers to buy a piece of land. In the last four months, I have seen a great change in my life in that I have been servicing the loan with ease using my monthly transfer from GiveDirectly. I am hopeful that I will soon clear the loan thus gain full ownership of the land meaning I will be free to expand my farming on it. I have enjoyed the ease of collecting water using the donkey I recently bought. At first, It was quite engaging and tiring going for long-distance to collect water. I am happy this has hardship had been tremendously reduced by my donkey."

"With my health status, I always wish to make my access to basic needs easier to make my life happier. In the next four months, I wish to buy a water tank to help me in harvesting water during the rainy season. This will help me have clean water at my doorstep without overusing my brother's children to fetch water for me. I also plan to secure an NHIF insurance cover to help me reduce my medicals expenses."

"In the past before the transfers, I did not have any stable source of income. I used to depend on income from casual work and odd jobs in my area for survival. As a result of inconsistency, I was not able to do much in life. Even buying new clothes was just a dream in my life. I was struggling to provide for myself. When I received my first transfers, I used part of it to start a cloth business by buying a small stock to test waters. I am glad it has been doing well and I have managed to change my life because I dress well, eat well and I have a source of income. I no longer have to sit beside the road to wait for an opportunity which I am not even sure will come."
