Robert
received a $40 fourteenth payment.
"Before GD came to our area, I used to rely on water vending business as my main source of income. It was very tedious and production was very low. My life was constant because I could not even raise enough to meet my needs. In most cases, I had to seek help from my parents. When I started receiving transfers from GD, I thought of the best way to invest and decided on cloth business. I am glad I made the right choice because on a daily basis, I come back to the house with money and I no longer struggle as I used to when I depended on water vending business. My life is now progressing because I don't rely on my parents anymore but I am the one offering help now."

Elice
received a $23 twenty-fourth payment.
"I have been able to take part in a merry go round that was initiated in our village once the transfers commenced and we have been able to do this consistently. This has seen me accumulate a sum of KES 25000 over the last four months which enabled me to buy a water tank; a dream I had always wished to achieve. This means that the worry of running out of drinking water especially during the dry season is now a thing of the past. Water harvesting has been made possible through this. With these transfers, I have also been able to hire workers in my tea plantation even when I had no money with the surety that I will be able to pay them once I received my monthly transfers. This has enabled me to increase my farm produce and raise the income for my family."

"I am happier in the evening after a long day of household chores. My duties involve looking for water, cooking, washing as well as farm work. Although its my routine, these duties are quite energy draining since I hardly get time to rest."

"After I am done with the normal household chores, I milk the one cow I have and chop some feeds for her. I then prepare lunch for my kids who are coming from school for lunch. In the afternoon I take my cow to the nearby water pan to drink water. In the evening I milk the cow again and take some milk to the nearby market center to sell and in turn use the money to buy foodstuff for supper. It is at this time that I feel happy since I know my family will have something to take for supper."

"Having a safe and conducive shelter has been our greatest desire as a family for long. The one we are currently residing in is grass thatched and every time it rains, it leaks and that has continuously subjected us cold and fear of waking up one day without a place to call home -due to its deplorable state. Having this accomplished will give me inner peace to engage in other meaningful activities. And since my husband is a water vendor in Mombasa, I intend to start a livestock trading business that will supplement his meager income. And that is what receiving this money means to me."

"My usual day starts in the morning when I start by milking my two dairy cattle. What follows is preparing breakfast for my family and then chop some feeds for my cattle. In the afternoon I take the cattle to the nearby river to drink water and come back chop some more feeds for them. In the evening I milk them and head to the farm to get some vegetables for my family to take for supper. The joy at seeing my kids play with the neighbours kids in the evening makes up my happiest part of the day."

"Building a new kitchen since the one i currently operate in leaks in water whenever it rains is what receiving this money means to me. I will then use the remaining part of my transfer to buy two dairy heifers which will be my store of wealth since after they multiply, i will be able to sell milk to earn a source of income as well as sell the cattle whenever i need money to cater for other emerging needs."

Engella

"My life has changed because I have acquired a wagon for ploughing my farm land on time . Previously, I farmed late because I had to wait for the owners of the wagons to plough first. In addition, I bought a bicycle for collecting water from the borehole. Before this cash transfer, I used to suffer from chest pain because of carrying a heavy jerrycan on my head."
