"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own a motorbike through the transfer. I mainly depend on casual jobs to earn a living thus having this motorbike is an additional source of income. Apart from providing taxi services at a fee, I am using this to sell and supply water in our region at a fee. We have been hit by a crisis shortage of water which forces us to walk over long distances to carry water. In such instances, I have to use the motorbike to sell and supply water at a fee thus earning an income ."

"Receiving this money means I will able to buy food and provide for my family as we are already starving. I also intend to build a better house for my household as the one I have currently leaks and sometimes I have to use buckets to trap the water"

Joan
received a $494 initial payment.
"I spent 180 USD of my transfer on building a two roomed Iron roofed semi permanent house because initially I had two tiny grass thatched houses. The Iron roofed house is a more spacious and can accommodate up to 15 visitors in one sitting and the Iron roof will be a source of clean water especially during rainy seasons. I spent 25USD on tractor for hire and maize and bean seeds because it's planting season and before I used to plant locally produced seeds and relied on man power. I spent 180USD on clothing for family with each individual spending 30USD on their clothes because we couldn't afford latest fashions hence only were second hand clothes and now we are very neat. I spent 120 USD on three sacks of maize meal for feeding my family because our place is semi arid there are prolonged dry spells which affects food production hence hunger strike."

received a $494 initial payment.
"I spent 150 USD on a young bull in order to rear until it gains value and sell it in exchange for an heifer or build an house. 250 UD was spent on heifer which is now six months pregnant as an addition to a dairy cow that I have. This is because milk has been the main income source for my family for a very long time. Mind you I used to pay school from selling milk alone so I still treasure it so much. 70USD was spent on two goats because they grow and multiply fast and in future l may sell them in order to purchase building materials.50 USD was spent on piped water group contribution because getting clean water is big issue in our place. Our place being semi arid causes a long dry spell which causes rivers to easily dry up. During sunny season we are forced to run up and down borrowing water from those who have piped water. 56 USD was spent on two maize sacks as a source of food for my family because it's been a long hunger period in our place and we normally eat from hand to mouth"

Richard
received a $494 initial payment.
"Getting this transfer has brought a very big difference in our lives. I have been able to complete the house that I had not finished building. I have been able to place the ceiling board and plywood on the walls of the sitting room and that of my children’s bedroom. I thus no longer have thoughts of how I will be able to finish constructing the house due to lack of money. My children too now have a nice room to sleep in. With the tank that I bought, we will now be able to collect enough rainwater. This water will be enough for our household use and that of the livestock. This will thus save us from the long trips that we have been making to draw water from the river. May God bless GiveDirectly."

Florence
received a $494 initial payment.
"The biggest in my daily life is that I managed to buy a big water tank. I have been dreaming of having one for years but I could not afford it because they were too costly. I opted in purchasing it because in my village there is always a water shortage and the dams are very far from my home. Therefore I know it will be a relief to me because I will be harvesting the rainy water and use it for my domestic activities. Also since I am a farmer watering my garden and farm will no longer be a bother to me since I have the tank."
