"This transfer from GiveDirectly has helped me a lot. I bought a cow with it and used part of the transfer in starting a business of selling second-hand clothes. I was also able to buy some food for our consumption and I bought a few household items that were missing such as cooking pots, a water container, etc. We decided to buy a cow with part of the transfer because we did not have one before and hence we have been incurring the cost of buying milk. I also started the business because I had that thought before but I was not in a position to start it due to lack of money. My husband and I depend on farming as our source of livelihood and the little money that we have been getting has mostly been going to the purchase of food, milk, and other household necessities. It was hence not possible for us to do the above because they were requiring a large sum of money that we didn’t have."

"In our area, we use open water pans as our main source of water for drinking and other domestic use. This poses a serious health risk as this water is shared with livestock and the area is characterized by poor sanitation due to open defecation. As a concerned mother about the health of my family, I decided to use my first transfers to provide safe drinking water to her family. I bought a 5000 Litre water tank worth KES21000 to be able to harvest rainwater. My wish to own a water tank was long overdue as I had to prioritize educating my children. To me, this is the biggest difference in my daily life and I am grateful to GiveDirectly for restoring my family pride and dignity."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is acquisition of a large water tank that can store alot of water at once. I had desired to buy one for the past two years but couldn't afford. This has reduced the time spent for fetching water and spent more time on my farm. Through the transfers, I have also managed to fence my compound which helps cattle from straying to other people's farms like before."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is owning a motorcycle. This has helped me reduced my work load like taking kids to school early, fetching water and grass for my livestock. The motorcycle has also enabled to reach my work station early and reduced cost of transport. Nowadays, we sleep comfortably and peacefully because I bought new beds for my family and I am stress free. My kids no longer remember the loss we experienced during the fire incident because some of the things burnt have been replaced by the GiveDirectly transfers. The transfers also enabled me buy a sewing machine for wife and this has helped in household expenditure."

"The transfer has brought positive changes in my life and that of my family. I have been able to buy the water tank that I have always desired to have. We will hence no longer have to make long trips to the river to fetch water. The rainwater that will have been collected by the tank will sustain us for a long while. I also no longer have to go about borrowing the spraying pump from the neighbors and inconveniencing them. I will be able to spray my cows and the crops in time. The three bags of maize that I bought with the transfer will enable us to have something to eat for a while and I will hence not be having any worries about what my family is to eat. My children too are happy after I bought them new clothes. I thank GiveDirectly a lot for helping me out. May God bless you abundantly."

"I spent KES 22,000 on a 3000 liters water tank because the water sources is far away. I also spent KES 500 on weeding my farm. I also spent KES 10, 000 on my beddings and latest clothing fashion which are better off than the second hand clothes. I also spent KES 5000 on food and household items. I usually rely on casual labor like weeding other people's farms. I have also saved the rest for food and household consumption."
