"starting a livestock rearing project is the biggest difference in my daily life. I depend on horticulture farming and this earns me a small income to meet my daily basic need and pay school fees for my children. I had no extra money to start the livestock rearing project. When I received the money from GiveDirectly I felt so happy because this was a chance to invest in the project. currently, I have six goats and I heifer. Goats are produced twice per year. I will sell them when they would have reproduced to pay school fees for my children. This will make my work so easy. When the heifer reprocess I will get enough milk for the family and cut the daily cost of buying milk daily which is so costly for me. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards to be much better."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have goats that I am keeping in my compound. It has been my wish to at least own one but I couldn't afford it because they were expensive. I purposely bought them for my children's education journey. Paying their fees has been stressing me so much since I am the family breadwinner of five kids. My spouse is very old and sick, therefore I have been working so hard to make ends meet but in vain. I trust that having the goats will enable me to pay the arrears in time, as soon as they increase in number. I am positive that my children will no longer be sent home regularly like before which is a motivation for them. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for bringing a huge impact into my life."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that through the transfers, I have finally been able to own goats. I have been longing to keep them in my compound but I could not afford them because they were costly. I however opted for the goats because they will be of help, especially for my children's education since they are still young. I will not have to struggle once they transition to secondary schools and colleges. My spouse passed on ten years ago and I have been raising the four children singlehandedly. Therefore having the goats means a lot to me because within a short period I will have many of them. They will not only be of school support but also I will be selling some cater to other household expenses. I am grateful for this far GiveDirectly has brought me."

"When GiveDirectly promised us unconditional transfers, I had plans lined up on how I would utilise my transfer. Therefore, I used KES15,000 in purchasing Iron sheets so that I would be able to build a house once I receive my second transfer. I then used KES 12500 on buying a new bed and a mattress. This is because the ones that we had were old and no longer presentable. Lastly, I bought a goat at KES 3500. I am so grateful for the support that enabled me to accomplish a lot that had been pending due to financial constraints."

"The moment I received my transfer, I was busy looking after my goats in the field. I heard my phone ringing, Upon checking I realised that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I was so happy and grateful to have received such a huge amount of money. I immediately rushed to my mother-in-law's house and shared the good news with her, she was equally happy. I knew that I would be able to accomplish the goals that I had. I am grateful for the support that lifted our lives amazingly."

"The first transfer brought forth a lot of changes in our family that would not have been possible without it. I had been struggling with a lot of bills and even though I had been working in the nearby school, the monthly salary has never been enough to sort even half of the bills. I spent KES 2000 on school fees for my two children in school and in addition obtained new pairs of school uniforms for them at KES 2000. The two were so happy to be in a brand new outfit and, better still, I had cleared all their school fees for them to study without any disturbance. I also spent KES 4000 on buying a goat that I am currently rearing, a hen and a cock at KES 800, and three turkeys at KES 4500. I spent part of the remaining on household goods and foodstuff for my family of four and saved the remaining KES 15000 to pay school fees for my son, who is soon joining grade nine."

"I spent my first transfer on buying a 1000Litre water tank to harvest rainwater because sometimes we are hit by a water shortage. I thus spent Ksh. 18000 to purchase the water tank to curb this problem. My children had also been sent home since I had not paid for them on time. I thus spent Ksh. 4300 and cleared the fee balance. They were allowed to continue with their after clearing the arrears. My son has been running a shop which has greatly helped us to effectively fulfil the family's basic needs. He is the family's breadwinner and relies on the income from this shop. I took Ksh 10000 and added more stock to the shop to increase the profit. I also bought a goat at Ksh. 2500 and added to my goat shed. This is an asset and financial security to me."

"I am from a polygamous family and it has been a challenge for my husband to provide for both families. I have five children all in school and raising their fees has been really grinding, thanks to the few goats that I sold to pay for their fees before GiveDirectly came. I sometimes failed to pay for them on time and they were therefore chased from school. I thank GiveDirectly because ever since I received the transfer, I paid for them on time and were allowed to go on with their studies without interruptions on fees. My goal is to ensure that they get a good education that will build them a better future despite the challenges."

"Upon withdrawing the money, the first thing I did was to buy a door for my house at KES 10000.00. For the last two years, the house has been without a door. I also bought some hard corals for KES 26000.00 for making some pillars for my house so that it becomes firm since it is made of wooden poles. Thereafter, I paid KES 4800.00 for school fees for two terms for my four primary school children so that they are retained in school without any problems for better learning. For the remaining amount, I bought two goats for KES 6000.00 and used the rest for food."
