Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, I was busy looking after my goats in the field. I heard my phone ringing, Upon checking I realised that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I was so happy and grateful to have received such a huge amount of money. I immediately rushed to my mother-in-law's house and shared the good news with her, she was equally happy. I knew that I would be able to accomplish the goals that I had. I am grateful for the support that lifted our lives amazingly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life today is that I was able to realise my dream in a short period. Building a shop is a dream come true for us, I was unable to initiate this before due to financial constraints. Secondly, I was able to clear the school fees arrears of my children, thus I am grateful for the support that lifted my life amazingly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a local businesswoman in the village where I sell doughnuts and my husband works as a masonry. Together we are blessed with four children. Upon the receipt of our initial transfer, my husband and I agreed to use our transfer in building a two-roomed business premise. This was because we live along the road and it was an opportunity for having to put up a business. Therefore, we used KES 30,000 on constructing the shop. Secondly, I paid school fees of KES 6000 for my children. I then used the remaining amount on foodstuffs and clothes. We are happy and grateful for the support that brought so much happiness to our daily life.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a mother of four children two boys and two girls. All of them are schooling in Mbonga primary and they are really growing fast. My ambition was to use KES 110,000 to build a two-bedroom permanent house for me and my hubby. The one we live in now will hand over to my children to have their privacy.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest thing it has happened in my life since this year began is my hubby getting a job every single day that enables my family to get something to put on the table.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husband does casual work to earn a living in this village. I have four children who are in primary education and one of them is always sick and needs medical attention. The job opportunities in this area are scarce and cannot be predicted to get, it's been hard for him to get enough income that can cater to all the family's needs. Sometimes I feel so stressed about the education of the children in the future since I don't have anything to rely on when my children are chased out of class due to school fees.
