"I had begun a project of building a new spacious house for my family when the support came. I was plastering the house and I needed 30 bags of cement to complete the whole house. I thus spent Ksh. 19500 on buying the cement to facilitate the completion of my project. Secondly, I paid Ksh. 17000 for my children's school fees. I cleared the fees on time and I am happy that my children are studying without interruptions on fees. I am also operating a food kiosk in our locality which has been my only source of income. I thus took Ksh. 10000 and purchased enough stock which includes wheat flour, cooking oil and other items. Lastly, I spent Ksh. 8000 on buying two goats which I am currently keeping. These are the living assets that I can rely on in case of a dire financial need."

"I spent KES 20000 my first cash transfer on boosting my business ( selling bread) in the nearby town centres. Being my only source of income, I was so worried that it might end up collapsing because of the insufficient capital. I am now a happy and hopeful entrepreneur because the moment I revived it, it has been perfectly doing well with good returns. I later bought a goat at KES 4000 and a dairy cow at KES 22000. These have been the well thoughtful assets that I have been longing to own and I am glad I finally achieved my dream. I settled for them because they can survive so well in my region. Additionally, I paid school fees of KES 6000 for my two children who are both in primary schools. With the remaining cash, I had to buy foodstuffs and other household items."

"I spent a larger portion of my first transfer on purchasing building materials to renovate my living house. Initially, it was built using mud hence temporary. My goal was to rebuild it to at least be a semi-permanent one. I thus purchased building stones, cement and sand to facilitate the renovation. I am glad that It's now decent and stable unlike when I had not I received the transfer. In addition to this, I also spent Ksh. 11000 on buying three goats which I am currently keeping on my homestead. My expectation is that these goats will reproduce and increase in number. They are assets that I can readily rely on in case of a financial need. I spent the small portion that remained on buying foodstuffs which include a bag of maize and vegetables daily. This ensured that food was adequately available for my family to take three meals a day."

"I have always desired to have a place called home in vain due to lack of enough money to support my family basic needs. I am currently a housewife while my husband work as a casual labourer and what he earn is never enough to support the entire family demand. We currently live in small grass-thatched house and whenever it rains, we normally have to squeeze ourselves through a corner with my husband and our little daughter. I am grateful for the support provided by GiveDirectly in that I was able to buy 15 iron sheet for KES 15,000 and we are in the process of completing the construction using the last transfer so that we shift to the new house. Furthermore, I bought food for the family which has lasted us over two months now. My family have been enjoying decent meal everyday hence improving our health greatly. In addition, I bought one goat worth KES 3,500 which will serve as my future security and investment. My life has changed greatly in that it brought a great peace and happiness in the family."

"Previously, I was living a hopeless life because I did not have any source of income to support my family especially my bedridden husband who got an accident which left him on wheelchair. Through the transfer, I was able to pay my husband hospital bill using KES 15,000. It was a big difference because my husband can now move little by little. I also bought three goats something I consider a very great achievement as it serve as a future investment. I am grateful for the support provided by GiveDirectly since it has also helped my pay my son in form 1 fees of KES 15,000. I don't know what would have become of my child if I never got the transfer to pay his fees on time."

"Every day, I go to my neighbors homes to seek casual jobs so that I can raise money for buying food for my family and support my children in school. First I prioritize on buying a dairy cow which cost me KES 31000, I then spent KES 12000 on paying school fees for my child who is in form three. I also invested in livestock through acquisition of two goats at a cost of KES 10000. The remaining amount, I spent on buying some clothes for my children so that they can have some to change with those which they had. I am glad that these transfers enabled me to acquire livestock, pay school fees and acquire clothes which I couldn't afford at the moment due to menial income from casual jobs."

"I was using an old traditional bed with mats as the beddings which could not offer a good sleep. My desire was to save money and be able to change them with new ones. However, this was not possible for me considering my lowly financial status. Its until I received the first transfer that I managed to buy a modern bed and a new mattress at Ksh. 12000. I am comfortably enjoying a good sleep under my new bed and matress. Apart from this, I also spent Ksh. 7000 to buy two goats which I am currently keeping in my household. I did not have livestock in my compound though my desire was to own some. These are assets to me that I can rely on in case of a financial need. I am expecting them to reproduce and increase in number. In addition to these, I have three of my children in school who had been sent home because of the huge fee balances. I thus took Ksh. 8000 and cleared the fees and were allowed back to continue with their studies. I spent the remaining amount on buying enough food for my family as well as paying some debts."

"My children were having huge fee balances which had accumulated for some months. When I received the first transfer, I spent Ksh. 15000 on clearing the fee balances. This gave me peace of mind because I have ample time to prepare for the next payment. My children will not be sent home, they were allowed to continue with their studies without interruptions on fees. After paying the fees, I went ahead and purchased a new mattress and modern bed and replaced the old ones that I have been using for years. They were old and worn out and could not offer a comfortable sleep. I am now sleeping soundly on my new beddings unlike when I was using mats and a traditional bed. Apart from these, I also bought two goats at Ksh. 7000 which I am currently keeping in my homestead. My plan is to rear them so that as they reproduce and increase in number, I can readily sell and help me raise fees for my children. I spent the remaining amount on buying foodstuffs which include a bag of maize and daily vegetables. This ensured that food was adequately available in my household."

"I was at the nearby shop at exactly 7 PM when I saw a message notification from my mobile phone. I couldn't concentrate and decided to check who it could be. I was overwhelmed with joy to learn that I had finally received the transfers that I had eagerly been waiting for. I was certain that I would acquire goats."

"I spent Ksh. 30000 of my first transfer on paying fees for my children who are currently in high school. Their studies were frequently interrupted because I failed to pay for them on time. They were sent home and they stayed for a couple of weeks because I couldn't raise the amount required. I am at peace now seeing my children allowed to continue with their studies. They would have stayed at home for a long time had I not received the transfer. Secondly, I spent Ksh. 12000 and bought three goats which I am currently keeping on my homestead. My expectation is for them to reproduce and increase in number. I will be able to sell the offspring in the near future to raise money for my children's education. I spent the remaining amount on buying foodstuffs which include a bag of maize and vegetables to ensure that my household never lack food."
