"My life is so different from how it would have been because I currently have two dairy cows and goats which I am rearing in my compound. It has been my dream to have them since they have numerous benefits but because of my financial constraints, I couldn't afford them. In the few months to come, the livestock will multiply at a higher rate especially the goats. Through that, I will be able to achieve most of my goals like sending my children to school. Also, the bicycle that I purchased through the second transfer has and my life to be relatively smoother because I no longer complains about the regular headaches and back pains as a result of carrying the water in a long distance."

"My life is different than how it would have been had I never received the transfer because I now have a water tank. I am now glad that even though I am still going to the river to fetch water, I believe that this will no longer be the case very soon when it starts to rain. I will be using the water harvested for domestic use and also to water my vegetables during dry season."

Winny
received a $510 second payment.
"I spent KES 10000 from my transfer to finish paying for a water tank that I had bought it using my first transfers. Also, I used KES 20000 to buy some goats for rearing. I have a section of my land where it is unproductive since it is full of murram and bushes hence not suitable for farming. These goats will enable me to utilize this part of land and they are also assets to me that I can depend on in case of an emergency. In addition to these, I spent KES 10000 to pay school fees for my son who had been sent back home to collect fee arrears. Using the remaining amount, I bought some clothes for my family and food to last us for some time."

"I am now living a better life because I was able to construct a decent house for my family. Previously, I was living in my neighbour's house after my house collapse. I was not comfortable in someone's house since I was sharing a room with her children. Moreover, we were able to get a motorbike which has helped us in getting water and earns us an income. We are now getting our daily basic needs like food without straining a lot unlike before. I"

"My wish had been to providing quality education for my children so they may have a better future, however, I am encountering a lot of financial challenges to fulfill my dream. Therefore, after getting my transfer, my priority was to clear the fees balance of $150. Also, I had a wish to open a water tap in my homestead since there is a water shortage after the dams dried off due the drought conditions in our area. Currently, we are dependent on tap water and I invested $150 on purchasing the materials needed for this project. Lastly, I bought solar and purchased food for my family."

"I spent my second transfer to purchase a bicycle for $150. This is because during the drought season It will assist me in fetching water for my family. Back in the days, I would walk for a long distance up to 20km in order to get water for my family. With the help of the bicycle I will spent less time to get water. I also, used $ 50 to hire an oxen to assist me in the preparation of my firm. Furthermore, I spend the remaining amount to pay school fees and purchased enough food for my family."

"Since GiveDirectly came to our village, I have been grateful to see the huge transformation around. The money received was so impactful and in my opinion, it was work well done for GiveDirectly to have taught us in the initial meetings how best we can handle the finances as we plan on what we needed to invest in as we avoid losses. Everyone adhered and dedicated all their efforts to the good ideas they had.
Even though we managed to fix the household issues we had, it has been my feeling that GiveDirectly would have done us best if at all they would have sorted at least a common utility project which could be facilitating the conveyance of piped water to every household. This would have solved the great challenge that we can't handle on our own as everyone has plans for the amount received and never willing to contribute towards a common course.
It also seemed unfair that many single fathers whose children are under the care of their grandmothers. These are the fathers who are always out trying to make ends meet for their children and were unfortunate not to have been considered."

"The water tank that I purchased through the transfers makes my life different. Thus because since water shortage is a major issue I had to think of a permanent solution on the same. We normally fetch water on the dam which is very far from the village and sometimes it dries during the summer season. Therefore the tank has really saved me from the hustle of fetching the water for the many miles. I am harvesting the rainy water and storing them in the tank for my domestic purposes. I no longer complain of back pain which was a result of carrying the jerricans. Aso with the dairy cows I will be getting plenty of milk for my family consumption and commercial purposes."

"I spent $110 of my second on buying ox-plough which will assist me in ploughing my farm. I was using the traditional way of farming which is characterized by a poor harvest. I also purchased a bed and mattress for my children since they were sleeping on the floor using a worn out mattress. In addition, I bought a water tank to store enough rainwater for my family's consumption. I used the remaining amount to buy 4 plastic chairs and pay school fees for my 5 children who had been discontinued for a week due to the balance of fees."
