"With the recent transfer, I prioritized spending KES 20,000 on cementing the floor of my house which was in a bad condition. Currently, it is relatively better and my family members no longer suffer from respiratory-related problems. In addition, I spent KES 7,000 on buying two goats that I am currently raising with the hope to sell them once my flock increases in number. In addition, since I have my parents undertaking a project for building a new house, I opted to spend KES 7000 on buying them an additional iron sheet. They are pretty grateful for the positive gesture I showed to them. Lastly, I spent KES 5,000 on buying foodstuff to supplement the ones I had. This I did because we are fast approaching an election period and I do not know what may be the outcome of the election process."

"Having witnessed how beneficial cattle are especially from my father who entirely relies on cattle rearing throughout his life, I could not wait any longer to own some. With the first transfers, I spent KES 41000 on two dairy cows and KES 11500 on three goats. I relied on casual labor and in most cases, whenever I was not lucky to get a job then I would look after my father's cows. It was then that I developed an interest in raising cattle. I am hopeful that once they will have given birth then we shall not rely on my father for milk and will even sell the surplus. This will be an additional income for my household. KES 1500 I spent on some of the foodstuff and detergents for my family."

"During enrollment, I had a grand plan to invest in a dairy cow since I had been spending a lot on buying milk for my family of six. It was quite unfortunate that the cost of livestock rose so high that I had to change my mind and bought four goats at KES 29000 that I am currently rearing. I am planning to sell them out in December to buy a dairy cow in January when the cost of livestock will have dropped. I also spent KES 7200 on foodstuff for my family, injected KES 13000 into my maize grains business, and used the remaining in buying new pairs of clothes for my four children. At the moment, I am glad that the business has improved a lot and with an impressive profit margin that will facilitate expansion in the future."

"I spent part of my first cash transfer on buying a sewing machine which cost KES 15000. Previously, I used to hire from a neighbour which was too costly and all I have been experiencing is loss. Also, I bought a mattress and a bed at a total cost of KES 11500. Previously, I used to sleep on the traditional beds for the four years that I have been in marriage. It has been tough because I used to undergo lots of discomforts. Additionally, I cleared fees of KES 5000 for my son who is in grade one. He is now settled in school unlike before whereby he used to be sent home regularly. To add to that I bought two goats at KES 6000. I am so happy to have them on my homestead because I am positive through them, I will active most of my dream since they reproduce faster. With the remaining amount, I bought food for the family."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now have a good number of goats that I am rearing in my compound. I resolved to them because they reproduce twice a year and their offspring mature very when compared to the other domestic animals. Therefore I am optimistic that within a short duration I will have many of them. They will purposely serve as the assets that I will rely on for my household expenses and my eight children's education. I believe that by the time they will be joining colleges, I will not have to struggle in supporting them. My dream has been to see my children getting a good education to brighten their future hence eradicating poverty."

"I spent the transfer renovating my house by putting up new roofs because it was leaking during the rainy season. I bought the required building materials like iron sheets, timber, nails and paid the labor cost. I currently have that I reside in a nice shelter after the renovation. In addition, I spent KES 5000 to clear the fee arrears for my 4 children who are still in primary school. They were frequently staying at home due to the huge fee balances which troubled me a lot. I also used KES 10,000 to start livestock rearing by purchasing 3 goats a future investment for my children's education. I intend to sell them when they multiply to educate my children. Lastly, I used the remaining amount to purchase sufficient foodstuffs for the family."

"My grandson had completed his high school and I was unable to take him to college to further his studies. His ambition was to complete his studies and be able to secure an employment in future since having a high school certificate is not enough to secure a good employment in our country. He is under my care and I could not readily raise the money for his school fees. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for coming to help because through the first transfer, I managed to save Ksh. 20000 for his tuition fee. I am glad that he has an opportunity to further his studies and reach his educational goals. In addition to this, I also bought two goats at KSH. 7000 which I am currently keeping on my homestead. These are assets that I can rely on for my grandchildren's education. I spent the remaining amount to do a shopping on new clothes and purchased enough foodstuffs that could take us for weeks. My family was able to take three meals a day unlike before when we could skip meals because food was not enough."

"The biggest difference that I can attest to is that before GiveDirectly came into my life, I had no livestock but now I have goats and a cow. I am grateful because GiveDirectly fulfilled enabled me to get them and they are serving me as an investment. In addition to that, if it were not for GiveDirectly maybe my house could have collapsed by now but I am registering my thanksgiving to the organization for it enabled me to renovate my house before I could count losses."

"Before I was enrolled into the program, I did not have any livestock. Working as a fisherman I earn very little (average of KES 300 per day) which is only enough to feed my family ( wife and nine children). I have used all my previous monthly transfers to buy goats. Therefore when I received my transfer, I bought a goat worth KES 3000. Currently I have five goats. I am happy because the goats are a future investment. Incase of any emergency I can sell some and use the money to attend to my most pressing needs."

"Give Directly does a fantastic job of giving cash transfer to the neediest in the society including the physically vulnerable individuals. The money has enabled me to achieve goals that were previously unattainable due to a lack of funds. I am excited to own livestock such as goats and chickens, courtesy of the cash transfers. I cannot think of anything Give Directly does poorly."
