received a $493 second payment.
"As a family, our living standard has greatly improved. We dress well and have sufficient food. With the water tank that I purchased, I no longer have to work miles away in search of fresh water for household consumption. I also have a spacious kitchen and furniture. Was it not for the transfer, I would still be in a sorry state in terms of well-being."

"I live in a hill and going downhill to fetch water is a headache.I never knew that I would ever have a water tank. Due to this, I no longer go to the river. I never had money to use at once to pay school fees and shopping for my son. Taking a loan might be easy but repayment is hard as we have nothing to use in repaying or as guarantor."

"My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer. This is because I now have water at my doorstep. Due to this, I always have water for domestic use at my convenience. Also, I now have clean decent clothes and I am able to wash them regularly. All these would not have been possible had I not received the transfer."

received a $493 second payment.
"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought a Water tank for storing water for domestic use. Our area is a semi arid and getting water during the drought season is so hectic. I could walk for a long distance to collect clean water for drinking. It's also so costly to buy them from the vendors. We were all exposed to water related diseases because we could drink stagnant water. When I received the second transfer I found it wise to invest on water tank. Currently I have clean water which I collect from the rain and I no longer walk for that long distance like before. My children drink clean water, I no longer get stress up. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has enabled us get clean water and live free from waterborne related diseases."

Kanze
received a $493 second payment.
"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer in that I was able to start livestock rearing which will provide me with milk supply and reduce the burden of buying milk every day. In addition, I was able to construct a decent house. The one I had earlier was in a low place where water could enter during the rain season. Furthermore, I am sleeping on a comfortable bed after purchasing one something that has reclaimed back my happiness I have lost for years."

"In the morning, I prepare my children for school, and thereafter, I start doing some household chores like fetching water and preparation of our lunch meal. At this moment, I usually feel lonely when my children are away and I normally don't enjoy the meal. In the evening I feel so much excited when I am in the company of my children because we talk a lot as share our dinner together. Hence, this makes evening the happiest part of my day."

"Being a mother and a business woman is quite energy draining. My day begins at 5: 00 a.m where I wake up to make chapati for sale as well as prepare my children for school. Since I do not have a premise , I hawk my snacks around the village and this goes up to lunch time. Once I am back home I engage in other household chores such as cooking, laundry and walking around 2 kilometers to search for water. This makes me long for evenings where I get to rest and refresh my mind."

Ivyne
received a $493 second payment.
"When I received my transfer, I spent I bought a water tank with a capacity of 2300 litres at KES 20000. I decided on this so that I can be using it to harvest rain water for domestic use during the dry season. Also, I bought three sets of seats worth KES 17000. I am now glad since my visitors will always have a place to sit in comfortably whenever they visit my house. Using the remaining amount, I bought some decent clothes and food for my family."

"We face a lot of challenges mostly we don't have enough land for us to farm with this big family of ours we need a bigger land inorder for us to have enough food.
Lack of boreholes which result for us to go draw water abit far and we are also very far from the road which make us be behind of knowing things."
