"I have always desired to have a really good business to get a good income. To do this, I needed to expand my grains business. I have been running a small grocery that could expand and earn me more than I do currently. I have not been able to expand it because I fear taking any loan for this. I also desire to improve my home and build a house for my sons who have to sleep in the kitchen. We were forced to relocate my boys from their former house when one of my daughters returned from her marriage. I plan to spend about Kes 30,000 to buy maize grains for my business. I will then spend about Kes 80,000 to extend a room in my house, build a new one and buy a water tank to store harvest water for domestic use."

"My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I no longer walk for a long distance looking for clean water for domestic use. Also, I got good harvest this year that will last us till next harvesting season. This is because I was able to practice timely cultivation and used quality hybrid seeds. Due to this, I am glad that we will always have enough food and our daily expenditure will greatly reduce."

"Before receiving the transfer, I used to walk for a long distance looking for water but this is no longer the case. This is because I now have a water tank that I use in harvesting and storing rain water. Also, I was able to acquire a dairy cow using my transfer. Due to this, I am optimistic that I will no longer be buying milk daily very soon. In addition, I now have some assets like goats that I can easily convert to cash when faced with financial challanges like paying school fees for my children. Being able to accomplish all these has made my life different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer."

"As one of GiveDirectly's recipients, a lot has really changed in my life since I received the first transfer. Comparing my current to the previous life before receiving the transfers, I am grateful that there are a lot of differences. I have managed to complete the construction of a new house, obtained a large water tank worth 24000KES that has saved me the cost of walking to and from the distant water source - it currently stores enough water for all our domestic uses. All these would not have been possible if I had not received the transfers, I am grateful and working hard to keep improving from where I am currently."

"When I get this money. I would like to build iron roofed house. I have a thatched house which is leaking. Also with the new house i can collect rainwater. Here we buy water at 0.05 dollar per 20 litre thus reducing expenses."

"Being a housewife, the only activity I engage in to support my spouse in providing for our family is farming in our 1-acre piece of land. I normally go to the farm each morning to till, plant, and water vegetables. I am always happy in the morning, especially when I see my vegetables flourishing, an assurance that there will be sufficient food for my family to feed on."

"In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to buy water tank and to buy build better houses. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer in that I am living a better life unlike before. I am now owning livestock something that I will depend on whenever I face any emergency. In addition, I was able to improve the condition of my house by constructing an additional room for storing my household properties. Furthermore, I was able to acquire clothes for the family back in the days we had very few pairs of clothes. Lastly, I am now sleeping on proper beddings after acquiring a new mattress and purchased water tank for storing enough water for the family."
