"I spent part of my second transfer on buying six goats at a total of KES 39000. I had been yearning to at least have one but I couldn't afford any at my cost because they were very expensive. I however settled for them because they grow and mature very fast which is assurance that I will have many of them within a short period. They will empower me enough to raise fees for my children and cater to other household needs that I may be lacking. I also paid school fees of KES 4000 for my eight kids in primary schools. At least they now studying peacefully without being interfered with by the issue of school fees. With the remaining amount of money, I bought food for the family which took us almost a month."

"I spent part of my second transfer on paying examination fees of KES 3000 for my seven children in primary school. The cash came in good time because they were to miss the exams which would drag them behind hence affecting their performance. I also bought five goats KES 20000. I intentionally purchased them for my children once they transition to higher levels of education. Also, I bought building poles, iron sheets and all the necessary materials that were required for the setting up of a new house. The previous one could not fit all my seven family members. They have therefore been sleeping at my friend's houses for all that long. It is now a relief to them because they no longer experience all sorts of discrimination like before. With the remaining amount,nt I bought food for the family."

"I have a new goal that I did not have before which is to make sure that I own at least a good number of goats. I trust that by having them, I will no longer have to strain like before, especially in paying fees for my children considering that I am the breadwinner relying on meagre jobs."

"I do not have any new goal for now that I can talk of and am so grateful for the ones that I was able to achieve which include owning goats. I am positive that once the goats increase in number, I will be in a good position to pay fees for my children timely and cater to all basic household needs. Since I rely on the charcoal business, it has not been that profitable and most of the time, I was even unable to bring food to the table."

"I used KES 10000 to buy goats for keeping and used the remaining amount to complete construction of a house I had built with the first transfer. Goat rearing has always been in my my mind and this was a perfect opportunity to implement it having received transfers from GiveDirectly. I had also built a new house with the first transfer and when I received my first transfer I was able to complete the parts that had remained and right now I am glad that I have been able to bring it to completion. I am looking forward to accomplishing even much more going into the future. I still have one child that is in secondary school and all the efforts that I have will be put in to ensure that he gets to complete his education journey successfully."

"I had been sick for a few days prior to receiving my transfer. I had to bear the pain in the hope that it would go away on its own because I did not have any savings to use for immediate medication. Fortunately, despite my low emotional and physical state, I received the transfer. Without further ado, I chose to spend KES 1,500 on medication the following day. I am grateful that I responded quickly to the drugs and regained strength within two days. Because I wanted to buy a goat, I decided to save KES 1,500, which I will top up with the next transfer."

"My goats appeared to be sick the week I received my transfer. I was terrified because I had lost several goats to an unknown illness the previous year. Immediately after I received my transfer, I opted to look for veterinary services. As a result, I spent KES 2,000 on the same. The remaining KES 1,000 aided me in transportation. I am overjoyed that they all appear to be in good health right now. I am afraid I would have lost all of my goats if it had not been for the timely transfer."

"I am a widower and a father of 7. I have been sustaining my family with some little income from sales of charcoals. Life became unbearable due to increased cost of living to the point that getting food for the family was a problem. It was a very happy moments for the entire family when I received my second transfer. I remember the day vividly, I was looking after my livestock in the field when I heard a phone vibration. It was a confirmation message of KES 55,000 from GiveDirectly. I knew my problems were over. I bought 2 cows at KES 29,000, something that I consider a very great achievement as my future investment, before even buying a goat was a problem but now I can afford to buy a cow through GiveDirectly transfers. I paid my son in secondary school fees of KES 10000. I bought my entire family new clothes using KES 8,000, this has improved their self-esteem greatly. My children other three children in primary had already been sent out of school, I paid a total of KES 14,000 as their school fees as well. Furthermore, I also bought maize flour and food stock for the family worth KES 5000. Family's health has improved greatly through nutritious and diet food that we can currently afford."

"My spouse passed on two years ago leaving behind four children who are under my care. He was the main income earner and adapting to his role has been a challenge. Farming is my main source of income but due to the frequent droughts in our area, we usually do not get enough farm produce to sustain my family. I have since then wanted to rear goats for business but raising the capital was a challenge. With the eighth and ninth transfers, I bought a goat for KES 4000 and used KES 2000 to purchase food for my family to add to the little that we had left. When I received the most recent transfer, my children had been sent back home due to the tuition fee arrears of KES 3000 which I cleared with the tenth transfer."
