"My spouse is caring for his three siblings, whose secondary school tuition was covered in full with the first transfer. Although our four young children have not yet joined secondary school, they will do so shortly. Due to the fact that my husband is our only source of income and works as a baker, it is difficult for us to satisfy all of our needs. In order to increase our household income, we spent $195 on two goats, a cow, and three ducks. We intend to sell some of them when they give birth. For my two children's entire primary school year, we spent $50 in school fees. Purchasing food was difficult due to the prolonged drought this year that caused an increase in the cost of food commodities. We are grateful that Give Directly came to our aid. We purchased enough food with the remaining $286 to last us for a considerable amount of time."

"First off, my house is in a very bad shape as you can see. It's too small that just a four by four bed with a metal box on the side is enough to completely fill it up. Again the roof is a flat one somehow too low that ends up making the whole house hotter than oven during the day. Still, because of the short roof its walls are also washed down with some parts of the roof leaking too. I plan to construct a new one when I get this money. It should be at least two roomed with a proper iron roof. This will cost around $600 , after which I will buy some goats and cows to also have my own domestic animals that I can always sell when I need money urgently to solve something."

"My Child Peter is about to join Pwani university next year 2022. I cannot tell exactly what he is going to study because I am illiterate. The fee structure shows that he is supposed to pay $750 per academic year. I will use $750 to pay his school fees so that he can start his studies. I will also use $ 200 to buy four goats as an investment. This will help me in case of any emergency because right now I have no any investment. I am happy for Give directly organization for your program for bringing hope into my life. Some of the community members had sidelined me because I am paralyzed. This really discourages me."

"When I received the second transfer, I first opted to buy some livestock as a security for the future. Livestock does multiply and they can be converted to monetary value when the need arises. Therefore, I bought one cow for $75 and three goats for $90. As of now two goats gave birth to twin calves each. After that, I looked at how the food prices had inflated and I opted to buy three sacks of maize at once to ensure food security at home. I spent $65 per sack. As of now, I am happy because I am thinking of other things apart from the head-breaking food issue. Initially, as a family, we used to go without food for at least two days a week. As of now, I am happy because my family has an access to food. Since I am a mother of six school-going children, I used $226 to pay school fees for them. $176 went to one secondary school child while $50 went to the five primary school children. I took this step after they were sent home for school fees. Currently, I am happy that I was able to act quickly because I had the GiveDirectly cash. If I reflect, I would not have acted quickly the way I did if it were not for the transfers. This is because my only source of income was from selling firewood which was unreliable."

"It is always a good thing to remember a good who once held your hand in a time of need. This is the main reason why I bought a goat for $15 using the second transfer I received from GiveDirectly to remember the organization always. Thereafter, I used $200 to finalize payments for a plot that I had bought using the first transfer. Being a single mother, I saw it prudent to buy my piece of land for my children to call home. By so doing, one earns respect and separates you from family wrangles. I also used $200 to buy some iron sheets to roof my house which I also started constructing at my plot using the first transfer. Currently, the house is complete and I am happy that I have a place I own and my children have a home. We are now confident as a family not like before when we used to seek permission for anything we wanted to do at my father's place. For the remaining amount, I bought a mattress and some food for the family."

"With my cash transfer, I bought building materials such as iron sheets and timber..I am going to use these iron sheets on improving the roof of my house since It is already built. I then bought 2 bags of fertiliser which I intend on applying in my maize field inorder to increase growth and boost fertility. Lastly, I bought livestock such as goats which I will be raising outside the house...I then saved the other part of the money so that I can be using it in purchasing other needed stuff at home."

"I bought agricultural materials such as fertiliser..I managed to procure 3 bags of fertiliser with an aim of promoting maize growth as well as boosting the fertility of my soil. Secondly, with my cash transfer I decided to top up on the amount of food that I had inside the house so I bought 4 bags of maize..Since I have a small family, I feel the maize that I bought will be enough untill the end of the year. Lastly I bought livestock such as goats and I saved part of the transfer with an intention of buying basic stuff such as soap, sugar as well as salt."

"What a blessing for me to be enrolled in this program! This is a dream come true because I have always wished to get this kind of grant to offset my biggest challenge of lacking a reliable job. I, therefore, intend to spend a better portion of my transfer ($500) to start dressmaking work, a job in which I have skills. This amount will cater to the cost of building a small kiosk, buying some starting materials, and a sewing machine. Doing this job will provide me with enough money to solve my family's very basic needs. On the other hand, I will also reinforce my house using some stones and cement, which I estimate to cost me $300. The remaining amount will help me to buy 4 goats to act as my long-term investment project. Thus, this is what receiving this money means to me."

"sell it at the nearby market. I get $7 a month and I use it for food for the family. My husband is seventy-five years, he does not work due to his old age. I have two daughters, both were once married but separated from their husbands and come back home, they leave their children with me as their go to the city for greener pastures. The most challenging thing is paying school fees for my grandchildren because most of the money is used for food and water. Receiving this transfer has enabled me to pay $5 for food, and $10 for food, and bought a goat at $15."
