"One of my children recently completed his secondary education and very soon she will be joining college to further her studies. My new goal is to collect enough money for school fees between now and the time she will be joining college. We normally get the money through selling of farm produce and we also intent to sell goats that we are rearing to do this."

"I spent part of my second transfer on settling a debt of $ 300 to a friend after purchasing his motorbike on credit. I now have peace of mind since I have full ownership of the motorbike. I specifically bought it for my spouse who has the experience he has also been employed by a friend and paid on commission which was so little. Being the family breadwinner it was so difficult for him to make ends meet. We are now thankful that whatever we earn is all ours. In addition, I bought bags of cement and sand which was for improving my own house by cementing the floor and plastering the walls. It was so annoying especially when it rains and sometimes we are forced to seek shelter from our neighbours. I am now happy that it is in good condition for human habitation. To add to that, I went ahead and bought three goats for $90. These will serve as assets that I can rely on in case of any financial constraints that might arise at any time. With the remaining amount of money, I have been buying food for my four family members."

"Definitely, the new goal that I have at the moment is starting goat rearing. I intend to purchase 5 goats when I get money for a start. This will be a reliable source of income to supplement my earnings for the motorbike taxi business. I will be able to sell them when they reproduce to support me financially whenever I face any emergency."

"The new goal that I did not have before is to own livestock more so goats. I trust that goat rearing is a very valuable project that can thrive so well in my region. Also, as compared to other domestic animals, goats reproduce twice a year and their offspring mature very fast. This is therefore an assurance that I will have many of them within a short duration. I will therefore be able to pay fees for my children without straining like before since I will be in a position to sell one or two and clear the arrears. Also through these goats, I will achieve more goals that might come along as time goes by."

"I felt really happy yesterday when two of my goats delivered at the same time. This means growth to me as somebody who keeps domestic animals exclusively. I love goats because they're most suitable for these semi arid areas given that they do not need a lot of pasture to survive under these conditions. I now officially have four goats. I started recently, just within this year and I did not think I would get so many so fast."

"I was overjoyed when I realized I had received my transfer. I had not expected to receive money then, despite my financial difficulties. It was late at night, around 5 p.m., and I was in the field tending to my goats. I immediately reached out to my mother, who was closer to me than my wife at the time and told her about my good fortune. She was just as happy as I was and shared her joy. I will never forget that time because it gave me hope. God does remember his people. That moment is still fresh in my mind."

"I have a family of three and we are living in a semi-permanent house with three rooms. It is spacious for the family but not durable. I will buy 20 bags of cement at $7 each. This will cost $ 140. I will also use $400 to buy other materials and labour. I want to ensure that my house is changed from muddy to a permanent one. I will also use $ 400 to buy 10 goats as an investment. I currently have 15 goats. Our climate in the community supports livestock rearing. I appreciate this program."

"I am an aged woman who deserves dignity and respect. Currently don't feel that the respect I get from the community match my age. This is because I live in a one-room house with a grass roof and so main openings on the walls. People can see me from afar when I am in the house. During the rainy season, I spend sleepless nights because the house is leaking. I will build a two-room house with an iron sheet roof. The house will have 24 pieces of iron sheets at a cost of $240. Labour and other building materials will cost $ 400. I will also use $ 300 to buy 10 goats as an investment. This will help me and my son in the future in case of an emergency."

"When i get this money i will use it to build a house since I already have a burnt oven. I will use it to buy iron sheets and pay the builders. I will also invest in goats and chickens to sell when there is need. Another amount will be used to buy food since I completely have none."

"I had desired to start livestock rearing as a reliable source of livelihood for my family. The transfers from GiveDirectly revived this dream, I spend $400 to purchase one crossed dairy cow and 5 goats. I am very happy that I own livestock like others that will assist in providing milk once it reproduces. Similarly, I will be selling some litres of milk to earn additional income that would support me in other basic needs. Also, when goats increase I will sell them in case of any financial emergency. In addition, I spent part of the remaining amount to renovate my one roomed, mud-walled house which was about to fall down by putting up a new door and cement floor. I bought food with the remaining part of the transfers since we did not have sufficient food for my family of eight."
