"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased a dairy cow. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me. I depend on casual jobs and small scale farming. The amount of money that I get through this is so small and I was not able to buy a dairy cow. It was always my wish to own a dairy cow someday. Whenever I had no money I would not get milk and this was so demoralizing. Currently I have a dairy cow and I get enough milk for the family and I am so happy for this. I earn an income but selling the extra milk to my neighbors. I save save the money to meet other household items. Were it not GiveDirectly all this could not have happened. Currently I devote much of my time on taking care of my cow. I get the feeds and ensure that there is clean water for the cow. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard to be much better than before."

"Actually the message came when I had gone to fetch water from the well and when I arrived since I am not literate I informed one of my kids to read out the message for me. I was more that elated to find out it was concerning the money from GiveDirectly because I could finally pay the debts that were piling from the school fees I was required to pay for my children, and I could afford a meal for a couple of days for my family."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to renovate the roofing of my house. I used to live in house with old iron sheets. I depend on casual jobs in the village and the small amount of money that I get through this is so small and it's only for household. I didn't had any other source of income. Whenever there was rain it was not any easy task. The water could enter inside the house. Currently I have decent house and the I no longer get worried whenever the rain comes. This Is because GiveDirectly has enabled us to purchase the iron sheet and replace the old one which was worn out. My children are so happy because they also received the transfer. I have never received such amount of money that and I am so happy and grateful for the support."

Jackson
received a $495 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased a water tank. I had always wished to own one but I didn't had the money. I depend on small scale farming and causal jobs. The amount of money that I get through this is so small and it's only for household basic needs. I don't had the extra money to buy a water tank. We used to walk for a long distance to collect clean water for domestic uses. This was so tiresome and time-consuming. The water that we could collect from the turf was not so clean and this means we were being exposed to water related diseases. Currently I have a water tank. We no longer waste time to go to the river. We have sufficient water. We have save time to do other activities at home. I am so happy because were it not GiveDirectly all this could not have happened."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have build a better and spacious house in a new place where there is no water. We used to live in a place where during the rainy season water could enter into the house. This was so demoralizing and stressful. I had always wished to do this but I didn't had the money. I depend on casual jobs in the village and the amount of money that I get through this is so small and I was not able to save. When I received the transfer I felt so happy and I knew that my wish will be fulfilled. Currently I no longer get worried nor stress up. When it rains I feel good and have peace of mind. Before I was do worried because water could enter into the house and prevent the movement and even make cooking so hard. GiveDirectly has enabled me to relocate and have a new houses. I'm so happy and grateful."

I could not believe my eyes. It was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy and hurry home to inform my family members. They were so happy and celebrated the good news. I knew I would be able to pay school fees for my children in various schools. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards."

Bahathi
received a $11 initial payment.
"It has been a very difficult year due to no rains in my village. This means that the majority of my customers who depend on farming have no money as they were not able to harvest due to the draught. I have a small business selling home-brewed liqueur that I buy at a cheap price and resell in the next village. My husband who is a casual laborer helps out whenever he can get a job. He would sometimes work as a partner other times sell water depending on the mob available. With this money, I was able to pay KES.1000 on the school fees balance for my children who had been sent home. The other KES.200 was spent on food. I am thankful to Give directly for this opportunity."
