What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have spent most of my two recent transfers on food, school fees, and livestock. I deducted KES 2000 from the transfers to clear overdue arrears at my children’s school. Also, I purchased a goat worth KES 3000 for rearing that I believe will multiply and increase my income sources. I spent the rest of the money, KES 1000 on maize flour for consumption. I am essentially grateful for this funding aid because it has improved my relationship with my husband. We no longer argue over money because there is enough to provide for the family’s needs.

What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Prior to receiving my most recent transfer, I was stressed up because I did not have any money to pay school fees for spent my 3 children. So when the transfers were sent, I spent them on paying the fee arrears equivalent to KES 1500 for my 3 children in primary school. I spent the rest of the transfers, KES 1500 on buying food for my children.

In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give directly has brought a good change in our daily lives. We have moved from barely having what we ought to eat to having two to three meals a day. There will be many more possibilities in the future to alleviate me from poverty.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The money came in when I least expected it and I at first could not believe it. Our children had been sent home due to school fees and it has been a tough couple of months. I paid KES.1000 for my three children to have a stable educational background for you to make it in life. The second thing we did was to buy food. We were able to buy food worth KES.2000 enough food which means that the artists are millionaires or self-aware. I hope that the children would take this as a sign and work better for their future.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had just left the house to go about my business in selling the home-brewed liquor when I heard my phone ringing with the text message confirming the transfer. I was happy that I could get my children to go back to work without stressing about where I would get the money. I was happy that I got to take part in such a project that I am sure will alleviate my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is that now my children can go to school without worrying about being sent home because of unpaid fees. They also have a full belly before going to school as getting enough food for the family was hard without a stable income.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
It has been a very difficult year due to no rains in my village. This means that the majority of my customers who depend on farming have no money as they were not able to harvest due to the draught. I have a small business selling home-brewed liqueur that I buy at a cheap price and resell in the next village. My husband who is a casual laborer helps out whenever he can get a job. He would sometimes work as a partner other times sell water depending on the mob available. With this money, I was able to pay KES.1000 on the school fees balance for my children who had been sent home. The other KES.200 was spent on food. I am thankful to Give directly for this opportunity.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Pocketing this money can easily be translated into secured and better education for my five children. I have my firstborn who finished primary school three years ago but has not been able to attend secondary school. I currently have fee arrears of about 6000KES. My last born has not been able to get enrolled in preprimary due to lack of money.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest time is during lunch hours. My lastborn is jovial, after being done with my errands I normally sit with her as we enjoy our moments together
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husband, a house constructor has been supportive till last year when he battled with kidney problem. Though he recovered after medication, he has not been able to do the job. Currently he is employed as a shepherd with a monthly pay of 2000KES. We have been depending on our two farming bulls which we normal use for farming. Since rains are inadequate, this cannot be relied.
