Alice
received a $538 initial payment.
"I spent part of my first transfer to buy some building materials to use in building a chicken coop. My decision to build this is because I had started rearing some chicken and since I have no other place to keep them, I used my kitchen as their shelter. This had made my kitchen have a foul smell from their droppings hence making us very uncomfortable and I could not even imagine welcoming someone inside the house let alone cooking in it. In addition to this, I used some amount to pay school fees for my daughter who had been sent back home from school because of some school fees arrears. Buying milk for household use has been my daily routine and it is costly. As a way to cut my daily expenditure, I decided to buy a heifer. I believe that in the next year, it will start reproducing and I will be able to milk to use and to sell the surplus in order to earn some income. I used the remaining amount of the transfer to buy farm inputs which majorly included bean and maize seeds and in hiring a tractor to help me till my farm in preparation to plant."

"the biggest difference in my life is that I have been able to buy a few chickens which have since been laying eggs. I know that in the near future, I will have a huge brood which will give me the opportunity to make some profits in the event that I seel them out at a higher price as compared to their original buying price."

"I have a poultry unit but not big enough to meet the market demand for eggs.I am planning to spend the transfers on expanding the poultry business that I do.I supply eggs to Bomet town and the demand is high. The transfers will also help me buy more eggs from the village to add to the ones I get from my chicken. It is cheaper buying eggs in the village.Currently I have 20 chicken and my plan is to triple the number."

received a $22 twelfth payment.
"My new goal is to build a chicken coop. I have started the project with the recent transfer and I am still in the process of establishing it. Currently, I keep them in a neighbor's hen house who has a good structure. The disadvantages of this partnership is that some of my birds have been infected with disease due to the transmission a result of mingling with my neighbor's infected hens. I believe that once I have my own chicken coop I can be able to avoid this."

Chepngetich
received a $22 sixteenth payment.
"The previous transfer which I received from Give Directly, I invested part of it on buying some chicken. As we speak, I got twenty chicken and get to collect approximately 10 eggs a day. The earning which I get from selling these eggs I got to purchase food for the family. This has enabled me to not only cater to my family but also save me from the tedious daily hustles which were more strenuous. Thankyou Givedirectly."

Jacob
received a $22 fifteenth payment.
"My life is different from how it was four months ago because by then I used to face a lot of financial constraints and at times paying my bills used to be an uphill task. Every time I got the monthly transfers from Give Directly, I invested almost the entire amount in the purchase and maintenance of the brood of chicken. However, today things are different because I am now reaping the fruits of my hard work and sacrifice."

Mike
received a $22 sixteenth payment.
"In the last four months, I spent part of my monthly transfer to buy some chicken and as now I got ten of them. Now on a daily basis, I got to collect ten eggs a day which when I sell I earn KES 120. This amount is enough to cater for my daily expenses. The money which I would have spent on these items I usually save to pay school fees for my child as I no longer get worried on how to provide for the family. I can proudly say this has been the greatest difference in my life which exists with the aid which I received from GiveDirectly."

Wiliter
received a $22 sixteenth payment.
"My additional goal is to start poultry farming. I want to do poultry farming because it is the most lucrative business at the moment. The products of this project are in high demand. Schools and hotels besides the locals in this village badly want the eggs from the traditional chicken. I know after a few months after the business has picked I will start reaping the benefits. I really thank Give Directly for enabling me to start doing this project. Such was only considered for the rich who could afford to buy the inputs and the chicks which usually require huge capital. I feel lucky because I am counted among the people who can do such projects in this village"
