Joseph
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"Being a farmer, I always work hard to improve my farming to increase my returns. I practice mixed farming and in the next four months, my new goal is to expand my poultry farming by buying more chickens to add to what I have. I prefer this since they are cheaper and they take a shorter time to lay eggs that I will use for both household consumption and sales. This will cut off my daily household expenditure."

Alexander
received a $531 initial payment.
"When I received my first transfer, I spent some amount to build a decent kitchen for my family. I bought some building materials that include timber, sand, cement, iron sheets and paid a mason for this work. I settled on this since the one we had was old and its roof was always leaking during the rainy season. This always made our items soaked with water when it rained. Also, I built a chicken coop as a way of starting a poultry keeping project. I am planning to buy some chicken using my second transfers. I prefer this since it is cheap to maintain and can earn me an income enough to support my daily household needs. I also bought a wire mesh to use in fencing our compound so that my chicken will not be moving out of the compound to the farms."

Kimeto
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"Alongside the subsistence farming which I have seen major improvement, I also have an additional goal to start poultry farming. For three months now, I have been buying construction materials in preparation to construct a chicken coop. This project is set to start towards the end of November and by December it will be running. I have made this decision to venture into poultry farming since it is highly productive farming which through the selling of eggs and chicks will earn me a good income which will, in turn, boost other farming operations."

Agnes
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"Since this transfers is progamme is approaching the end. I am thinking of constructing a poultry house. I have a desire to invest in poultry so that I would have a source of income through the sale of eggs. Currently, I have 20 chicken which are about to start laying eggs but the challenge is that I do not have a good structure to keep these birds. I would request my husband to complete paying for the water tank with his transfers as I save towards purchasing materials for constructing a poultry house."

Carolyne
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"My new goal is to open a poultry business. It is always safer not to depend on one source of income alone. So I thought to have a poultry farm as a backup plan.
I believe in this idea because the demand for chicken in this region is a very high hence ready market. Chicken is easy to manage so long as the right precautions are followed. I am also positive towards poultry business because they multiply very fast so long as there is ready food for them always. The ready market and their ability to multiply faster with minimum supervision are what motivates me to do this project."

"I am a business woman who buys and sells milk.Depending on this one business has been a challenge because of varying seasons.I therefore want to open a retail shop when I receive this money.I believe this business will pick because my target customers are the ones that I buy milk from.I will build a structure in my farm since it is strategically located beside the road. This will save me the expense of paying rent. The cost of building and buying stock will cost me Ksh 40,000(400 USD).My husband is also a business man and part of the money will go to his business. He sells firewood to schools.I also want to fence my compound using mesh wire so that I can rear chicken."

"In the next four months, I am planning to add 30 chicken to my stock. This will mean I will be collecting more eggs in a day. It will kind of double the profits I am getting currently. This will help me reach my long term goals. Once this business has become stable and has started generating large amounts of profits I can even start building a large permanent house for my children"

"I have a little experience in poultry farming but I have not had enough capital to rear more chicken. With Give Directly sending me transfers next month I will immediately embark on poultry farming.I will begin by fencing the compound using meshwire. This will cost me Ksh 20,000(200 USD).I will then put up poultry structures and finally buy layers chicken with the remaining part of the first transfer. My target is getting 50 eggs for sale per day when things start running smoothly. With the second transfer I will buy an improved dairy cow breed of around Ksh 45,000(450 USD).With the sale of milk and eggs I will get enough to develop myself while I am still young and energetic to work."
