Margaret
received a $22 sixteenth payment.
"My new goal is to buy sheep and add more chicken. I believe that when this transfers will come to an end I would have another source of income that will enable me to meet my family needs and also pay school fees for my child. If the business does well, I will permanently stop doing casual jobs and focus on growing my poultry business. I feel good I will no longer be doing the tedious casual jobs any more"

"My additional goal in the next four months is to add more chicken to make it to 100 birds. I believe when I got to this number, I will be able to earn good income. This will enable me to cater to my family needs with less struggle. I will also be able to realize the long term goals that I was almost giving up on"

Rael
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"Since I started receiving transfers from Give Directly, I have been investing part of it on my poultry farm. Now I have to build a good poultry house because my chicken has increased and needs a bigger room. I now have twenty chicken. The twenty chicken allows me to collect at least two crates a week, this translates to around KES 1200. This has been a supplementary source. I recently managed to buy two sheep due to this extra income. I don't think I could have bought them any time soon"

"Investing 200 USD of my first transfer in boosting my business of selling second hand hand bags as well as building a modern chicken unit using 300 USD and adding more chicken to my poultry is what receiving this money means to me. I will then use my second transfer to pay school fees for my son in college next year hence this will help me avoid debts and calling friends and relatives for school fees fund raising ."

"When I got married as a second wife,my spouse bought a 0.1 acre piece of land for us to live in.In it was a small house in which my family lives in right now. This small house serves as both the main house as well as kitchen and is often congested. In addition to this,I have to use charcoal as fuel and this is often expensive and hard to find.Receiving this money will enable me build a separate kitchen where I can be able to use firewood as fuel. This will help us cut costs because firewood is readily available in the village.I also intend to buy a cow and some chicken so that through it my family can get an income."

Topius
received a $22 sixteenth payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily is the ability to generate income from poultry farming. I use the transfers to buy concentrates and other poultry feeds that have so far improved their health. I collect about 30 eggs per day from about 50 chicken that I keep. The money has been helpful in paying my school fees saving my mum from the headache she used to go through to pay for me. She is relieved and I also feel good that I am now independent too."

received a $22 twentieth payment.
"My additional goal for the next four months is to begin keeping poultry. Poultry is an easy project that can be managed with little resources. The main drive that makes me venture into this activity is that chicken lay eggs which will, in turn, be sold for money. Again, eggs are also food and can help improve my family’s health."

Nancy
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have had an opportunity to lease a piece of land. I am separated from my spouse and living with children in a small section that was given to me by parents and the piece is too small that I can't farm. I am happy that I am making progress with my farming. I was also able to buy some chicken and a sheep for rearing. Ever since I got separated, I have always worked hard to try and meet my children's needs. I was also able to pay for my children's school fees. I am glad that GiveDirectly got my hand."

Jane
received a $533 initial payment.
"I bought a wire mesh to use in fencing my compound using part of my first transfers. I settled on this so that when I start a poultry keeping project, my chicken will not be moving to the farms and destroy my crops. Also, I bought a water tank to use in storing rainwater during the rainy seasons. This will save me hustles of going to the river to fetch water every day even during the rainy seasons. I used the remaining amount to buy two sacks of maize flour and decent clothes for my family."

Tergech
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"I expect my life to have changed in many ways. I will have gotten rid of the expense of having to buy milk for daily consumption. I will, in fact, be making money from selling the extra milk that I will be producing. I also expect my poultry project to have further expanded because I keep on buying more every month and hatching more chickens. I see my self leaving a better life that will be sufficiently provided for."
