"When I received my second transfer, I spent some amount to start a poultry keeping project. I bought some building materials to use in building a chicken coop and also bought some improved Kienyeji chicken. Water is a problem in my region and one has to walk for more than 6 kilometers looking for it. It is also not always clean thus not fit for drinking. Due to this, I spent a good amount from my transfer to buy some pipes to use in connecting piped water. I am now glad since I have clean water at my doorstep hence I no longer walk for a longer distance. Also, I sometimes sell water to some of my neighbors at KES 5 per 20 liters hence an income through it. I spent the remaining amount to buy some necessities for my family. I bought some decent clothes, shoes, pullovers and enough food to last us for some time."

"The biggest difference in my life is that l started poultry keeping which is currently doing very well. I am able to sell them when I need to attend to any emergency, as compared to before when l had only one source of income that could not carter for my family needs being that I have a lot of responsibilities and I have a large family. The chicken are also a source of food to us especially when things are tough and my family have nothing to eat."

"In the next four months, I want to invest more in my poultry keeping project. This is a project that has been so dear to me. I am looking forward to adding 10 more chicken within the next four months and raise the number to 30 and above. This will even make the cost of living much more affordable for me and raise the living standards as well. Considering the increasing number of chicken that I keep, I have plans of building a poultry house that will make it easier for me to keep these chicken. This I plan to do with the help of the monthly transfers that I receive and profits ploughed back from the poultry keeping business."

"My expectation in the near future is to start a poultry project. We have a ready market for eggs and chicken in our local market. Through the sale of these products, I know we will be able to comfortably meet our daily needs. Apart from that, my biggest worry that has always given me sleepless nights will now be manageable. I will no longer feel depressed with how I would pay my children's school fees. The poultry business will make me more stable financially. I will be in a position to comfortably meet my family's needs."

"In the next six months sleeping on an empty stomach will be an issue in the past. This is because the grocery and fish business will be generating income, GD's transfers will still be there and the money earned from the casual work will also be coming in. Meaning we can as well afford the luxury meals(meat, chicken.etc) we have dreamt of ever since."

"Buying a 5000 litre water tank at $350 for harvesting water during rainy seasons is what receiving this money means to me. With this we will no longer have to depend on dirty and contaminated water from the open water pans that we usually rely on hence improved health care on our side. I will also spend part of the remaining transfer to build a modern poultry unit as well as buy chicks and mature chicken for rearing which will earn me some income from selling the chicken products."
