How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my life is that l started poultry keeping which is currently doing very well. I am able to sell them when I need to attend to any emergency, as compared to before when l had only one source of income that could not carter for my family needs being that I have a lot of responsibilities and I have a large family. The chicken are also a source of food to us especially when things are tough and my family have nothing to eat.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion Give directly does not involve third party in their program, they deal with people directly. I also feel it was a very good thing to use M-pesa as away of sending money to us because it is very convenient and safer way send cash. Their stuffs were also transparent in everything they were doing, there were no any signs of corruption. I did not see what Give directly did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent most of the transfer to buy building materials and built a poultry house where I am keeping poultry. I built the poultry house because I wanted a secured, spacious place where I could keep more poultry. The remaining balance I spent to buy a number of poultry that I am keeping. I thought of starting the business because it is a business that moves very fast and it is very profitable and it is true because the business is already doing very well. I am able to get money to take care of my family needs. I spent most of the transfer to buy dairy cow as my future investment. I thought of buying dairy cow as a way of investment since I am planning to sell the calve after the reproduction and spend the money to pay school fee for my children . I will also get milk from it for my consumption and also sell some to the near by market and save the money for my children. Since my children are still very young, they are in primary school and very soon they will be joining secondary school and this will help me pay their fee with ease. The remaining balance I spent to buy ironsheets as I am planing to put up a spacious comfortable house, since I am staying in a very small old house that can fall down anytime.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I can finally lease some land which I will use to cultivate maize and sugarcane. This will ensure food security for my family as I can consume some of the harvests and sell the surplus in order to purchase other different types of food.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am relaxing with my family. We usually have supper together as we talk about our day. Whenever I spend time with my family I always feel very happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I currently face is lack of enough money to pay school fees for my four children. If I am unable to raise the required amounts they may have to drop out of school and this will really demoralize them.
