"Receiving this money means a stable source of income for my family of three. I depend on temporary casual jobs in a nearby tea estate to fend for my family. The casual jobs are so unpredictable because you can be working this month and the following month you are let go indefinitely. It stresses me a lot because I surely do not have alternative sources of income to cover me during the time I am not on contract. It usually forces us to look for casual jobs in the village which you might find only once a week and this affects our meals because during such periods we eat only once a day. It is usually a very sad moment in the family and I wish to end this through your transfers. I will therefore use this money to purchase 3 cows because there's plenty of pasture here so it shall be easy to feed them and from the sale of milk we shall be able to at least earn an income and I plan to expand this further in the future. It will also be a long term investment because the cows will multiply with time and they will be assets to the family."

"The moment I received my transfer, I opted to build a decent house for my family. This is because the house that we were living in was grass-thatched and small. I was unable to build a decent house for my family since I depend on casual jobs which are not reliable. When GiveDirectly promised us the unconditional transfer, I used the opportunity to realise my dream where I used a sum of KES 43,000 in constructing the house. I then used the remaining amount to purchase a cow. I was able to construct the house in a short period therefore we are indeed grateful for the support that impacted our lives fully."

"I am a businesswoman and a mother of two children. I had purchased a parcel of land sometime back but I was unable to clear up all the required amounts at once due to financial constraints. Therefore I committed to paying the remaining amount in bits. The transfer came with a big relief because I used KES 25,000 in offsetting the debt, I then used KES 25,000 on purchasing a dairy cow to cut down on the cost of buying milk daily. I was unable to pay for the land in full before since I did not have enough resources. I am grateful for the support that lifted my living standards amazingly."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to purchase a dairy cow within a short period. This is a big relief because I am hopeful that I would be having sufficient milk for my consumption. I am forever grateful for the support that uplifted my life tremendously."

"The transfer has brought a very big difference in our lives as a family. This is because having bought another cow, we now have enough milk for our consumption. We thus no longer incur the cost of buying some. We are planning to sell some of the milk and use the money that we will get from the sales in paying school fees for our children."

"I was taking my breakfast when I went back to check the phone where I had left there was a message. The message was confirming that I have received some money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy because I have never received such an amount of money before. When I informed my family everyone was so happy with the good news. I knew I would be able to purchase a dairy cow. I stayed for five days planning with my family on other expenditures. This was one of the happiest days of our lives that I will never forget."

"Upon receiving my first transfer, I spent KES 25,000 on paying school fees for my son who was joining form one. He is now fully settled in school for the entire term in school. My mind is now settled and is at peace as I continue with my normal casual jobs to cater to other family needs. I also bought a dairy cow for KES 30,000 which we are currently milking three liters per day. This has allowed us to reduce the expenses of buying milk daily and be able to be for other family needs. I am grateful to Givedirectly for the support and waiting for my second transfer to do more."

"Receiving this money means a great relief to me as a single parent of two. I came out of an abusive marriage five years ago, with no capital no savings, and two young children. I did not get to have a quality education due to poverty at home. I have been doing odd jobs including tea picking all these years. Life became very hard and I had to go back to my parent's home where I was given a small old house that used to be our kitchen. I live to mouth at the moment, and the school-related costs including school fees are weighing me down, making me stressed and depressed. With this money, I plan to purchase a quarter an acre of land for KES 50,000. For the rest, I will purchase a cow, so I won't be purchasing milk like I'm doing now. It will reduce my daily expenditure hence I can live a better life."

"In our culture cows are valued to the point that when one has many he is seen to be wealthy. That's why dowry is paid in form of cows. As we speak I do not have even a single cow and this makes me feel incomplete. I used to be a farmer but at the moment my body is weak and I had to abandon all agricultural activities hence no income to buy a cow. I desire to buy a cow worth KES 40,000 which will produce at least 7liters of milk every day. Milk is sold at KES 50 per liter and that means I will be earning KES 350 every single day. Receiving this money will make me feel proud that I also have my own cow"
