Paulina
received a $470 second payment.
"The new goal that I did not have before receiving the transfer is purchasing a dairy cow. I used to buy milk from my neighbors daily and this was so costly for me. When I received the transfer I found it worth investing in the dairy project. Currently, I no longer buy milk like before. I am so grateful for the support."

"GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the people in the community to build better house and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well"

Mwenda
received a $471 initial payment.
"I had desired to restart my livestock rearing, an activity that I was depending on, but all my livestock died due to the drought that was encountered in our area two years ago. I used KES 30,000 to purchase a local dairy cow that will ensure enough supply of milk as well as sell the extra litres to earn a living. I also used KES 11,000 to assist my son in the payment of the dowry after my daughter-in-law had to return to her parental home after failing to pay the pending dowry. Furthermore, I bought a sack of maize for KES 4,800 so that I may have enough food for the family as well as use KES 2000 to clear the debt at the food store where I had taken foodstuffs on loan. Lastly, I spent the remaining to purchase 3 goats long term investment for myself."

Stephen
received a $455 second payment.
"We spent KES 30000 of our recent transfer on buying a cow. We decided to buy the cow so that it can help us in the future when it calves. We can sell some of the milk and get money for paying school fees for our children. Buying a cow is something that we have been hoping to achieve for quite some time since we didn't have our own. The cow that we have been rearing is borrowed. With the remaining transfer amount, we spent it on paying school fees for our three children in secondary school. We subdivided it among them and although we didn't manage to clear school fees for the whole academic term for the three, we are glad that none of them was sent home due to the arrears. We are thus so much grateful to GiveDirectly for everything. May God bless you."

Joseph
received a $471 second payment.
"In my opinion GiveDirectly did well by giving us the money without conditions on how to use it. This gave us the freedom to choose how to spend the money on and empowered us to make decisions on the best things that we thought of. I am personally very grateful to have fenced my compound and for the dairy cow that we bought."

Daisy
received a $471 second payment.
"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well to give us aid in monetary form. Secondly, they do well to advise us on how to spend the cash. This is evident in my village from the modern Iron roofed and well-furnished houses which have replaced the initial grass-thatched houses. Additionally, those who couldn't afford school have paid with the transfers, and those who didn't own dairy cows now have."

Sharon
received a $455 second payment.
"I did not have a new goal. I had planned on purchasing a dairy cow. This is because I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me. I do not have a continuous source of income, I depend on small-scale farming and casual jobs in the village. I had planned for all the transfers before receiving it."

Janet
received a $455 second payment.
"I am a single mother of two and I have been doing farming to earn living. It has not been easy raising these children alone because one of them it physically challenged and requires 100% care. This has denied me opportunity to look for casual jobs and therefore, I usually sell part of my farm produce to get other basic needs and pay school fees for the older one. Sometimes, I get overwhelmed with bills especially when I have not had a good harvest and it becomes difficult to pay school fees. I have always wanted to buy a dairy cow so that I can supplement my income through selling milk but financial constraints has been the biggest challenge. I spend KES 20,000 of my recent transfer to pay school fees balance for my child and the balance to buy dairy cow. With this cow, I'm hopeful that it won't be much of a struggle moving forward like it has been ."
