"We live in an area that is prone to frequent drought that leaves rivers and streams dry. As a woman, my job is to ensure that there is enough water for domestic use. During dry seasons, I cover 3 kilometers in search of water, and to make the situation worse I carry it on my back using a 20-liter jerrican. This leaves me with so much pain on my back that persists for days. I desire to own a 5000-liter water tank that costs KES 35000 so that I can use it to harvest rainwater. Receiving this money will enable me to buy a water tank so that I do not have to go to the river to fetch water now and again."

"Purchasing water tank is the one of the new goal that I did not have before receiving the transfer. We used to walk for a long distance to collect clean water and it was so tiresome. I found it worth to invest on this because I would be able to save time to do other activities at home."

"After withdrawing the money, I bought a plot of land for KES 25000.00. The aim of buying the plot is for subsistence farming. The land that I used to do some farming is no longer productive and I am sure this new plot will give me a high produce. Since I have six children who are in school; 5 in primary and 1 in secondary school, I settled their fee payments of KES 4000.00 and KES 10000.00 respectively. I also desired to have some animals at home hence I bought three goats for KES 9000.00. And since the period we were in was a hardship season in sourcing for food and water, I used the rest in buying food for the family."

"I am the only breadwinner in my family. My husband, who is of old age, no longer goes to work. My only job is to sell charcoal, firewood and even fetch water for other people. The farms we depended on are no longer productive and we have to settle on selling charcoal to earn a living. When I received my first transfer, I spent KSH 1000 to buy food for the family. The previous day we slept hungry, and the starvation really affected the children. I did not fully roof the house and when it rains; it floods and destroys the property inside. Because of this I bought one sheet so that before the rainy season I will have to fix the entire roof. Having bought the iron sheet, I saved the remaining KSH 1000 so that it will be enough to buy a goat in the future."

"I am happy that after very many years I can sleep comfortably in a bed. Lying on the ground for those years affected my health. Back pains and chest pains are some of the health effects that affected me during that period. For the few days that I have slept in the bed, I feel much better. The chest pains are slowly going away and I hope I will soon be in good health. Besides buying the bed, I bought two chickens to start the poultry project that I have always wanted to have. I then spent the remaining amount of money in buying food and water. Because of the drought, finding water has become very hard. We have to buy water at very high prices. Food prices are very high and with nothing coming out of our farms, we have to buy the food or else we starve to death."

"I live in an unfinished two-bedroom structure together with my five children. The children's room is the one that was incompletely done with an open roof. I will use 20,000 KES to complete the remaining part of the house. I will also reinforce it with pillars for durability. This will cost around 20,000 KES for both labor and building materials(cement, sand, and water). Due to the shortage of water in our place, I would wish to purchase and tank and install gutters to collect rainwater. I will purchase a 2000 liter tank for 25,000 KES. The remaining amount will use cater for food and other household needs."

"I used to work in digging water pans to collect water for the community as we rely heavily on water pan as a source of water. Since I became sick, (which I suspect the kind of work I used to do was the source of my illness) I have can no longer fend for myself and this the major challenge I am currently experiencing."

"The challenge we are facing currently is the lack of water for home consumption and livestock. We have experienced prolonged drought for the last 6months hence the river has dried up. This forces us to fetch water from the neighboring village which is distant and tiresome."

"I was on my way to fetch water, at around 8 AM, when the I received my transfer. Upon returning home, I rushed to withdraw the money since I was in dire need of it. I felt very happy since the cash would help slice the load of hardships in my house."
