How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Since I am a potato and maize farmer and also a cattle keeper, I am planning to continue and grow to large-scale farming also cattle keeping. Pay for my children’s school fees without worries after selling my farm produce and the milk product.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I thank GiveDirectly for the far It has bought us. I am happy about the transfers I received for the two months, a sum of Kes. 110000 which I could not get anyhow. May God bless you. On the other hand, I do not have any complaints at all since I have not seen any. Thank you so much GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the second transfer of $550 on plastering my wife's house which was so much in bad condition. Bought a dairy cow, which I had longed for a while, at least my family will be able to drink milk to improve their health, and sell some to my neighbors to get money to pay their school fees and carter for their basic needs. Even though there is drought and little milk is produced, I am hoping for the best by the end of the day and even much to come in the future. I am a cattle keeper and a farmer and so is my wife. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for the support.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was at 7 am when my children came to inform me that GiveDirectly has sent the money. This was like a sunrise to me because I have never received such huge money. I knew I would be able to renovate my house. This was one of the happiest morning I have ever had. We went and withdraw the money the following day and plan on where to get the materials for renovation. I am so happy because GiveDirectly had given me an opportunity to fulfill my dream.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have renovated my house to look decent. This was one of the priorities that I had planned with my spouse. Due to our old age we no longer wants to be exposed to dusty floor. It is not easy to maintain since it need to be smeared on weekly basis. This is so tedious and time consuming. When we received the transfer from GiveDirectly we decided to purchase some sand and cement. We have cemented the floor and plaster the wall. The house look decent and we no longer get worried on how to maintain it. We live in dust free floor. We are so grateful because GiveDirectly had improved our living standards and enabled us to fulfilled our dreams.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent all the transfer on purchasing building materials and renovated my house. I had always wished to do this but I did not have the money. My house was not decent and this was so demoralizing especially when I have visitors at home. I was able to purchase all the necessary materials that was requested by the workers for construction. My house now look so decent and I'm so excited and grateful for the support. GiveDirectly has improved our living standards to be much better than before.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I solely rely on dairy farming to earn a living. I have been practicing free-range grazing and I desire to start zero grazing. Paddocking land and building a modern cow shed will cost me KES 40,000. This will assist me greatly as I will be closely monitoring my dairy cows and also improve the yields that I get. The rest I will use to improve the kitchen.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Old age comes with a lot of ailments but I am thankful to God for everything. My wife and I have been well and in good health for the last six months and this has brought me happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge we are facing currently is the lack of water for home consumption and livestock. We have experienced prolonged drought for the last 6months hence the river has dried up. This forces us to fetch water from the neighboring village which is distant and tiresome.
