Josphat
received a $462 initial payment.
"During enrollment, I had a grand plan to invest in a dairy cow since I had been spending a lot on buying milk for my family of six. It was quite unfortunate that the cost of livestock rose so high that I had to change my mind and bought four goats at KES 29000 that I am currently rearing. I am planning to sell them out in December to buy a dairy cow in January when the cost of livestock will have dropped. I also spent KES 7200 on foodstuff for my family, injected KES 13000 into my maize grains business, and used the remaining in buying new pairs of clothes for my four children. At the moment, I am glad that the business has improved a lot and with an impressive profit margin that will facilitate expansion in the future."

Taplule
received a $462 initial payment.
"I used KES 30000 to buy a dairy cow. Dairy keeping is the main economic activity in our area. I used another KES 20000 to cement the floor of my house and the remaining amount was used to buy other basic household needs."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now happier than I have ever been before. Having bought enough food and having bought a dairy cow has meant that we are more secure in terms of food and nutrition."

Tabutany
received an initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have started building a better and more spacious house for my family. This was my main concern since we live in one small house which cannot host all my family comfortably. I had always wanted to build a better house but there was no money. I depend on a small-scale family of vegetables and maize. This is majorly for consumption. I have a daily cow and sometimes I would sell milk to get some income this was not enough to purchase the building materials. Whenever we had visitors there was no space to host them and this was so demoralizing. Currently, the construction is ongoing, When it is complete I will have a decent and spacious house. This is my dream and GiveDirectly has enabled me to fulfill it. I will live in a house free from dust and whenever I have visitors they would have a space to spend a night. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirecly has changed our living standards."

Elijah
received a $462 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased a heifer. This is because I always buy milk daily and this is costly for me since I do not have a main source of income. We depend majorly on small-scale farming. The small produce that we get is for family consumption. We do not get a surplus to sell so that we can get some income. Sometimes I do casual jobs in the village and this earns me a small income which I use on purchasing household basic needs for the family. When my cow reproduces in the next few months I will be able to get enough milk for the family. I will cut the daily cost of purchasing milk to the cost of KES 50 per day. I have two children. When I do not have money my family would go without milk and this was so demoralizing. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirecly has fulfilled my dream. I have always wanted to buy a dairy cow but I did not have the money. Currently, I have devoted much of my time to this project."

"The most significant difference in my daily life is that I was able to purchase a dairy cow with the support that I got. This is the happiest thing that has happened to me and my entire family is happy and relieved because we would have a surplus. Secondly, I was able to pay school fees for my children. I am forever grateful for the support that brought a total transformation to my life."

Jane
received an initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is the purchase of a dairy cow that has constantly supplied my family with enough milk and also extra liters to sell and generate daily income. The daily income has improved our financial security in the household as we no longer obtain any item on credit as we previously did."

Jane
received a $462 initial payment.
"I was glad to spend KES 31000 out of my first transfer on purchasing a lactating dairy cow to add to the herd of three heifers I had been rearing. Buying a daily liter of milk for my family of three has never been easy, especially during this season when the prices of other household goods have been high. At the moment, we have a plentiful supply of milk enough to sell some to the neighbors. I also bought a sheep at KES 3000, paid KES 10000 school fees for my daughter who is currently in secondary school, and obtained KES 20 iron sheets with the remaining KES 15000 that I look forward to using in the construction of a new house for my family. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for the support and hope that the second transfer will come in handy in the initiation of other new projects."
