Benard
received a $460 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is the cow that I bought and which has supplied us with enough milk already. We get up to 4 litres per day and this is more than enough for consumption as we sell the surplus. It has helped us a great deal especially during these tough economic times. I am a father of five and this too will enable me to be better equipped in paying their school fees especially when they reach their secondary school level."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is the complete turnaround in my family. In the past few months, I was struggling a lot to provide for my family, but I am glad that I now have a dairy cow and a plentiful supply of foodstuff for my family."

Geofrey
received a $460 initial payment.
"I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I had travelled and left my account number at home with my wife. My wife then called me once she received money from GiveDirectly. We already had plans of buying a dairy cow and therefore was not hard for us to withdraw and use the money."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is the investments that I made. The dairy cow that I bought is a game changer in my family since it will not only provide us with milk for consumption but will also provide us with enough to sell and meet other family expenses. I feel the future of my children is more secured than it has ever been before. I am a mother of five and I largely depend on agriculture to make ends meet."

Philimon
received an initial payment.
"I work as a tailor at a nearby shopping center. I had obtained a loan and spent it on buying a dairy cow for milk production. I was expecting that I would repay with my earnings from the tailoring business but things didn't go as expected. My business wasn't doing well and I ran into a financial crisis trying to repay the loan. That drove me to financial stress as it had reached a point where I was able to concentrate on my job. The moment when I received my transfer, I felt so happy as I knew that the money would enable me to repay the loan so that I would be free again."

Winny
received a $460 initial payment.
"The fact that we have moved from buying milk for consumption each day to now milking one of our own is something that has brought a lot of difference in our lives. The cow that I bought gives 3 litres per day and this is more than enough for us . I feel so much happy and relieved and I feel better equiped to gather for the needs of my four children especially now when my husband has been taken ill."

Mercy
received an initial payment.
"When I received my transfers from GiveDirectly, I felt so happy as I had never gotten such an amount before. I used to seek casual jobs so that I can raise money for buying food for my family and milk for use at home. I had no cow at all and that's why I used to buy milk more often. When I got these transfers, I saw a brighter future as I would buy a dairy cow."

Christine
received an initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is the investments that I have made. Having bought a dairy cow has meant that I will no longer have to use money to buy milk here at home and at the same time I can sell the surplus to make ends meet by meeting other needs of my family."

Christine
received a $460 initial payment.
"Upon the receipt of my initial transfer, I saw it fit to use my transfer in paying for the health care scheme where I used KES 6000 in clearing the annual charges. I knew that this was very crucial because we would access medical services. I had defaulted earlier due to a lack of funds because I am a consistent farmer and at my age, I am no longer energetic. I live with my grandchild because all my children are independent and in their homes. I then used KES 19,000 in renovating my house and KES 15,000 on buying a dairy cow. I was unable to achieve all these but I am so glad that it was possible with the unconditional transfer."

Alice
received a $460 initial payment.
"Owning a dairy cow is the biggest dream that I never thought that I would have achieved in a short period. This is indeed a dream come true, I will no longer worry about buying milk daily but instead I would be making an income from selling the excess milk to our neighbours. I am contented and happy to have been financially empowered just like my neighbours."
