"I am a passionate farmer and when I got financial aid, I spent KES 35000 on buying a dairy cow for milk production. I then spent KES 5000 on paying school fees for my child who is in high school. The rest of KES 15000, I spent on buying the stock of foodstuffs, some utensils, and a few clothes for myself."

"GiveDirectly enabled me to accomplish most of the goals which I had before I got the transfers. At the moment, I got a piece of land, a good house, a cow, and three sheep. All these were as a result of the transfer which I got, I am glad that I am now set to start my own family very soon. I operate a motorcycle taxi business and the market is flooded at the market and income from the business isn't reliable anymore. My new goal is to start up a retail business so that I would earn profits that would enable me to provide for my family in the few months to come."

"I do any available casual jobs in the village to make ends meet, I am unlucky because I am not educated therefore I depend on the little I earn to earn a livelihood. Though the little I earn is barely enough for my family which comprises three children and their mother. I, therefore, chose to purchase a dairy cow worth KES36,000 to cut down on the cost of buying milk. I then used KES 6000 on starting a poultry project which I am optimistic would be a big boost to our income. Lastly, I used the remaining amount on foodstuffs and clothes. I am so grateful for the financial aid that brought so much happiness to our home."

"I am a businesswoman specializing in selling vegetables and fruits and I am a mother of three children. Upon receiving my second transfer, I thought of purchasing a dairy cow worth KES 26,000 to cut down on the cost of buying milk. I am so relieved that I would no longer be spending money on expensive milk daily. Secondly, I bought foodstuffs and clothes for my family. It was hard to attain all of these due to financial constraints as a result of the high cost of living. I am grateful for the support that lifted my life tremendously."

"The new goal was to purchase a dairy cow. This is because I used to buy milk and this was so costly for me. I had always wished to own a dairy cow but this was not possible because I did not have the money. I am so grateful because I have cut the daily cost of buying milk. I have devoted much of my time to this amazing project of dairy keeping. I hope to make it my main source of income through the sales of milk."

"The new goal that I had was purchasing a heifer. This is because I always buy milk daily and this is so costly for me. I depend on small-scale farming and this is majorly for consumption beside that I run a small retail shop business but the money that I get through this is so small and I was not in a position to buy a dairy cow. Currently, I have a heifer and I know when it reproduces in the next few months I will get enough milk for my family and cut the daily cost of buying milk."

"GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and buy dairy cows. Other than that most of the people paid school fees for their children in various schools and bought water tanks for storing clean water for domestic use. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well."

"I did not have any new goals. My son was involved in a road accident and he injured his leg. He was admitted to the hospital and this made me spend all the second transfer on paying his medical bills. I am so grateful because I was able to settle this. I could have sold my cow and other assets."

"When I withdrew the money, I first paid KES 18000.00 for college fees for my child who was on the verge of dropping out of college due to lack of fees. I also bought 6 pieces of Dumuzas iron sheets for KES 5700.00to add a second room to my house because it was small and congested to accommodate us and the household items. Besides that, I bought two goats for KES 9000.00 and a mattress for KES 6000.00. I preferred the goats over a cow because they can cope with the drought situation in our area. In addition to that, I added some stock to boost my business of selling fried fish which was collapsing, and used the remaining amount to buy some food for my family."

"My new goal is to be able to have an additional dairy cow. This is because dairy keeping is a main source of income in our area. Right now I own two dairy cows which produces almost 5 litres per day and the milk is just enough to be used in our household without any surplus for resale to make extra income. Getting additional livestock would mean that I get enough milk supply and be able to even sell the surplus produc d to better the living standards of my family. I am a father of two and any income that will be added will see us be able to pay school fees for our children and meet other needs more efficiently too."
