"My goal now is to save some money to purchase a shaft cutter machine. This will ease my work on the dairy-keeping project that I have started. I bought a dairy cow with the first transfer and I wish to ensure that I keep it well for higher milk production."

"I do not have a new goal now. My main focus is to plant more Napier grass for my dairy cow that I have bought using the second transfer. I wish to invest in this in that it will get milk in the next few months when it reproduces. This will enable me to cut the daily cost of buying milk which is so costly."

"In my opinion GiveDirectly did very well by giving us the leeway to choose how to spend the money. The cow that I bought and the house that we built brings me so much joy seeing them complete."

"My new goal is to do more investments like buying of dairy cow so that I be more empowered and in a position to foot my own bills. The cow that I bought with the second transfer is almost calving and once it haves its first calf, I will use the proceeds from the sale of milk to save and buy an additional dairy cow. I am so much grateful for the support as I remain optimistic that this new goal shall be a reality soon."

"Constructing a decent house was the dream that I had. This is because the house that I own earlier was old, grass-thatched and it was leaking because the grasses had decomposed. I bought 20 iron sheets for KES 17,600 for the construction of the new house. I also invested KES 31,000 on livestock rearing by purchasing one cow and 4 goats a long-term investment for the family. I will be able to sell them when they multiply to cater for any emergency. Lastly, I used the remaining amount to boost the shop business that we had started as a partnership with my 3rd born child. Through this business, we can now meet our needs without struggling unlike before something I am grateful for."

"To ensure a memorable mark remains in my household after the transfers, I saw it fit to buy a heifer at KES 20000 that I am currently rearing with another dairy cow that I already had. I am always grateful to see every morning as a reminder that the generous support we received from GiveDirectly was impactful on my family. I also completed the construction of my new house, which was still missing the doors and windows. I had to cut down the available trees on my compound, obtained timber, and paid the carpentry labor a total of KES 4000. I am glad that we now live in a new house with spacious rooms for my family of eight. In addition, I paid KES 14000 tuition fees for my two children in secondary school, new pairs of clothes for my family at KES 10000, and the remaining amount on other household goods. I am grateful for the steps we have taken and have faith that the future will be brighter."

"After passing on of my husband a year ago, I had been raising my two children alone. Even though the challenges have been many, I am grateful that I have been able to take them through some classes in school before GiveDirectly came in to support me. Providing their daily foodstuff has been hard, but the dairy cow has made it possible since I have been selling the surplus milk and buying foodstuff with the proceeds. On receiving the second transfer, I spent KES 28000 on buying another heifer, hoping to provide extra liters of milk in the future. I also spend KES 22000 on buying a 3000 liters plastic water tank that has completely changed the previous pattern of frequently visiting the river. I have gotten an uncomplicated time fetching rainwater, which is clean compared to the muddy ones from the public streams around. In addition, I spent the remaining amount on improving my farming practices after tilling and planting certified seeds on my pieces of land."

"Previously, I was struggling to raise money to buy milk for my family of five. On receiving the second transfer, I spent KES 45000 on buying a lactating dairy cow that stopped the purchase of milk. At the moment, we have a plentiful supply of milk, enough for my household and some for sale. I also paid KES 3000 tuition fees to cover the entire term for my three primary school kids and settled a debt of KES 3800 in the immediate shop where I had been obtaining foodstuff in credit. I am glad that I was able to keep the promise of settling the full debt with the second transfer, which made the shop owner happy as well. In addition, I spent the remaining amount on buying new pairs of clothes for my four children."

"I spent KES 25000 of my second transfer on boosting the retail shop business that I have been operating in the village. Due to the financial problems that I was experiencing, I was sometimes forced to utilize the capital which lead to the collapse of the business. I am happy that I received the cash timely and managed to revive the business. I am now earning good profits that have enabled me to fend for my family without struggling like before. Also, I spent KES 18000 on buying a dairy cow from a friend. I had to settle for it since it will serve as a long-term investment that will enable me to achieve a lot. Additionally, I saved KES 5000 for my son so that once he transitions to high school I will be able to take cater of all his necessary items for him to be enrolled. I later bought a sewing machine because I am a tailor by profession unfortunately I had not been lucky enough to secure the machine. I now feel motivated and grateful because soon I will open a workshop. With the remaining cash, I bought food for my five family members."

"My newest ambition is for me to be able to purchase a dairy cow. I have one at the moment but its hardly enough though the milk surplus is not enough for our daily consumption. Achieving this dream at the moment would be an uphill task due to financial constraints but I trust that all will be well."
