"Drought experienced in my area is beyond measure. Sometimes I am forced to walk for long distances to fetch water for domestic consumption. Sometimes I am tired but left with no option because I can not afford buying water from the motorcycle guys given that they sell one 20Litre jerrican at KES 100."

"I was heading back home while carrying a 20-liter jerrican of water on my head. After covering over 30 km s I felt very exhausted. The sight of my house motivated me to keep going as my legs felt weak and could no longer walk. No sooner had I reached home than I received a text message confirming that I had received my first transfer. I felt thrilled as I jumped up and down while in a jovial mood. I called my daughter broke the good news to her, and she joined me in the celebrations."

"In the life of a peasant, challenges never cease and so I have dozens of those, even though they're all around draught and unreliable sources of income. It's been more than two years of draught meaning for all that time no traditional styles of farming has taken place when this is what we always do to get by. On the other hand, cost of living has also gone too high lately with essentials like water that we used to get for free are now being sold."

"I do not have reliable source of income. My bicycle repair job is really on the low for now four months, and also house construction isn't doing great either because villagers are broke for now due to this ongoing draught. With all that, I still have a family of eleven to to take care of and eight children to educate. It worries me, I do not know what we will do if the situation continues like this; at the moment we even buy cooking water."

"Due to the drought experienced in the region, water has been a challenge as the water pans dried up and we have to walk for about 3 kilometers to the nearby water pan. It's always tiresome and the water is not safe for human consumption. Lack of food in the family as my husband does not have a stable source of income. Most of the days of the week we only take one meal a day. I also have had some stomach pains since last year and I can not afford better health care because I do not have enough money for the treatments. This condition has really affected my health."

"Lack of food is a big problem in my family of eight as I only depend on my father who is doing casual labour to support the family. There is drought in our area and this has dried up the water pans which we only depend as our only sources of water. This has hit us hard as we have to walk more than 3 kilometers to reach the nearest source of water."

"The persistent drought experienced in my area has led to suffering and misery. As we speak, I have to walk for three hours every morning and only get home with one 20Litre Jerrican of water. Taking bath everyday is impossible and we are really suffering over here."

"The message came in when I was coming from the well from getting some water. I could not decipher the message relied since I lacked the knowledge to do so, so I waited until I got home and asked my son for assistance. I was overwhelmed with so much much excitement because I had no money and the previous night my family and I had actually gone to bed on an empty stomach. So I was glad that we were sure to have a meal at the end of the day."

"The biggest challenge is source of income, there is no activity that one can can do to get food, so I feel bad being idle at home and at the same time I have a lot of needs. We are living in drought season, and getting food and water is very difficult, we walk long distances to get water, for home use and for the family."
