"I bought a cow at $200 in January 2020, 4 months ago it gave birth to a female calf. I am happy because I can get half a liter of milk a day, which is enough for my son to drink and also to make tea for us."

"If we're able to get the cash transfer, I have a enough land to give pasture for my livestock. I plan to buy 10 both male and female cattle at $100 each and keep them for sometime, then sell at a profit. One cow or bull can be sold at $300, when well fed, from this I will be able for expand my livestock and also save on M-Pesa or even open a bank account. This means that from the savings I will be able to pay for my children's school fees and at the same time milk the cows to get milk for my family and have good tea in the morning."

"Having received the first transfer, We used it to buy a dairy cow. Our new goal at the moment is to accumulate enough money through selling the cows once the dairy cow reproduces and using the money collected to buy a piece of land. We live in a very small piece of land currently and getting our hope is to buy an additional piece that will give us more space to practice agriculture. We are very optimistic that this shall be achieved as soon as the dairy cow that we bought reproduces and we get to sell the calves to make income."

"Receiving this money means alot to me since it will enable me to expand on my business. I lack enough capital and this has made me not to maximize on the profits. I have seen my other competitor's business doing well because they have enough capital and wished that I could be like them. I had always aspire to expand my business but it has not been possible. I am elated with this help from Give Directly since it will enable me to realize this dream. I intend to use USD 200 for the expansion of my grocery business and use the rest of the money to purchase a dairy cow."

"For sometime now I have been relying on a small business that I run in a nearby town as well as dairy keeping to earn a living. I have however come to realize that the shop that I run gives very little in terms of returns and I sometimes even run into losses. In the next few days, I am planning on specializing in dairy keeping. With the current drought situation, even farming of crops has been an excercise in futility. I am so happy that I was able to use the first and the second transfer to improve my dairy keeping project by completing a dairy house that I had built halfway. I now have two dairy cows with one of them producing 17 liters of milk per day. My plan is to add the number to 3 once the drought situation has stopped and we have the rains."

"We are so excited as a family because receiving this money means that we shall resume livestock farming soon. We are so hopeful that in six months to come we shall have revived our main source of income. We shall buy 3 dairy cows and since there is plenty of pasture around the house they will be feeding well and producing milk optimally. We would also like to try again chicken rearing but this time since we plan to invest $300 we shall be able to curb disease invasion of the flock through proper vaccination and larger rearing space."

"I am a single mother of two. I stay in a very small piece of land that I was given by my parents here at home. I feel very comfortable staying here with my two children but the piece of land is too small, hardly half an acre. It is fir this reason that I am looking forward to buying an additional piece of land once I get extra money. This may however take longer to achieve since both my children are still in school and I have to work hard to continue paying their school fees and keeping them in school. Having bought the two dairy cows that I bought with the first and second transfers, I am optimistic that I will be able to save some money once these cows reproduce. One of my children is also completing her secondary school studies soon and this will bring about some relief on my end in terms of finances. I hope that I will be in a position to realize this dream within the next two years."

"I have a new goal of buying my own dairy cow. With the payment of school fees, I was forced to spend everything that I had including selling all the livestock that we had. I now have dairy cows that belongs to someone else and which I keep in my compound just to get milk. This is so discouraging and I am looking forward towards buying one soon. It may not be so soon because I still have children in school that calls for my concentration in looking for their school fees and hence I may not be able to buy any livestock yet. This goal will be achieved after two years or so but I am determined to buy my o n livestock and change the living standards of my family."

"We have a new household goal of saving from our monthly income to buy a dairy cow because the construction work we started with my husband with the second transfer is expected to be completed before the end of the year. I am currently teaching at a nearby school while my husband works as a casual laborer in Nairobi. We will gradually build our savings from our salaries with the goal of saving $0.5 per day on milk purchases once we buy a dairy cow that will, in turn provide us with milk. "
