Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. It did not come as a surprise to me since I had been informed earlier that I will receive the said transfer. I heard my phone ring and I instructed Betty my daughter to confirm to me who the message was from. She confirmed that GiveDirectly had indeed made good their promise of sending us cash as earlier promised.I felt so much relieved that I was finally going to be able to solve most of the issues that were a priority to me at that time. We later planned with my daughter on how to clear her medical bills following an accident which she was involved in. We were also able to pay school fees for my grandson.

The biggest difference in my daily life is the peace of mind that I now have. Before receiving this transfer, there were a lot of things that I had always wanted to do but on top of my priority list is clearing of medical bill for my daughter who had been involved in an accident. She was the person that actively helped me meet the needs of my family. After she was involved in an accident, I was the one to provide everything for the family. It was such a relief for me to receive this transfers. I feel more peaceful having cleared the remaining fee balance and for the fact that she is recovering well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my first transfer of $550, I used $280 to buy a heifer and another $100 to pay school fees for my grandson. Another $100 was used to settle part of hospital bill for my daughter who had been involved in an accident late last year while the remaining amount was used to buy food for the family. The money came at a time when we were lost of what to do to get money to gather for hospital bill and school fees. What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Receiving this money means alot to me since it will enable me to expand on my business. I lack enough capital and this has made me not to maximize on the profits. I have seen my other competitor's business doing well because they have enough capital and wished that I could be like them. I had always aspire to expand my business but it has not been possible. I am elated with this help from Give Directly since it will enable me to realize this dream. I intend to use USD 200 for the expansion of my grocery business and use the rest of the money to purchase a dairy cow.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I normally do grocery business, recently business has been doing good ,atleast I get some money to buy household goods to take to my family. In a good day I make up to $3 which to me is enough for the day unlike before where I could hardly sell groceries worth $1 ,so at the moment there is an improvement and I pray that it continues this way because the cost of living has gone up.It is so fulfilling when I go back home at the of the day smiling having made the money and my family are happy too.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My daughter Betty,was involved in a road accident in Narok while she was going about her daily routine as a security guard. This was on July and she was rushed to hospital where she underwent surgery on her left leg. She is now bedridden and cannot do much on her own and therefore she is not able to engage in any generating income activity as she is still recuperating.We incurred a huge hospital bill of USD 1300 which was a lot of struggle to raise the money.It disturbs me alot to see her in her situation,she is in pain most of them time.
