"As a mother, my family's welfare is my major concern each day. I do not have a stable source of income to secure our needs. Though casual jobs have been my major source of income, I practice farming to enhance it. To be receiving this cash transfer means, a better source of income. I am planning to use KES 43000 to improve my farming. I will use KES 13000 to set up a good chicken house and KES 30000 to buy a dairy cow. I prefer this since I am available to look after them. Having milk for household consumption and sales will boost both my income and my family's health. I will be selling eggs from my chicken to buy some household items."

"I love chicken keeping and this has been my source of income however I have not built the coop where they can live in. The biggest challenge and demoralising has been being eaten by predators and easily getting infections from neighbours' chickens. It has been my ambition to build a house for them and so when I receive this transfer I will spend KES 30000 to build a chicken coop and purchase more hens. I anticipate that my income with increase and thus meet all my family's needs."

"For the last 7 years, crop farming has not been doing well in this region mainly because of prolonged drought. My desire is to diversify and venture into poultry farming. At the moment I have a flock of 10 chicken and my plan is to expand it to 50 in the next 5months. Last year I painfully lost 30 chicken to an infectious disease and this brought my morale down. I intend to spend KES 20,000 to buy 40 chicken and since I do not want to loose any, I will spend an extra KES 2000 to buy vaccines to mitigate any future infection. Receiving this money will be a new beginning for my business as it will enable me to rear chicken on a large scale"

"Production and sale of milk have been my main source of income. With this, I can support my family and put food on the table. But recently I have had no peace of mind, I am worried that the owner of the cow might come for it. This money gives me hope of having my cow. I will set KES 40,000 to buy a dairy cow and venture into dairy farming. To guarantee my family of stable income, I will set aside KES 20,000 for poultry farming. This will enable me to tap more income through the sale of chicken and eggs. The remaining money will also help me renovate my house now that I am still living in mud houses which are expensive to maintain."

"I am a potter and this is my source of income however this income is not sufficient to meet my household needs including purchasing milk to feed my children. It has been my ambition to purchase a dairy cow that will be our source of milk and income as well if there would be surplus milk. This has not been achieved due to a lack of money to purchase it. So when I receive this transfer, I will spend KES 35000 to buy a cow. I will spend another KES 5000 to purchase a wire mesh for the chicken coop as I intend to start rearing chicken for commercial purposes this will increase my source of income and I am glad that I will be able to meet my household needs."

"I am glad that through the transfer, I purchased livestock which I could not afford to buy at my own cost. Currently, I have three chickens and a goat which I am keeping on my homestead. I am aged and cannot do any manual work thus having livestock is my financial security. Once they reproduce and increase in number, I can readily sell the offspring in case a financial need crops up. The transfer also enabled me to buy enough food for my family. I have been relying on my son's support but he is currently sick and indisposed. He is unable to work anymore and has a big family to take care of. I am happy that I was able to assist him in providing for the family."

"I own rental houses in my compound, winds blew the roof and my tenants had to vacate my house. Things became too difficult for me because I have I loan to pay which I used to build the house. Receiving this money I intend to renovate my rental house to that I can gain the honor of being a landlord. I will start rearing chicken in my compound because they have a high demand during the festive season. With the remaining amount, I will pay school fees for my children to give them ample time to study."

"The biggest difference that I can attest to is that for a while I had the zeal and admiration for starting a poultry project but had no capital to kick start the project. Lucky enough, GiveDirectly came to our village and through them, I managed to construct the structure soon I will be keeping the chicken for sale purposes. By doing so, I will be having an income-generating activity that will enable me to manage my family's needs."

"When I withdrew the money, I opted to buy a bed and a mattress for KES 15000.00 because I had neither a bed nor a mat to sleep on. I also paid KES 4000.00 school fees for my two primary school children because they were being sent home regularly because of the fee arrears they had. After settling the school fee issue, I bought some school uniforms for them for KES 1500.00. I also bought four goats and five chickens at KES 12000.00 and 2000.00 respectively. Thereafter, I used the remaining amount in buying some food and clothes for the family."
