Chelangat
received a $435 second payment.
"After graduating from college few years ago, I have not been able to secure a job as a teacher and I decided to concentrate on farming. My interest has been poultry and dairy farming but I couldn't afford to buy a Friesian cow and build structures for the chicken. With my second transfer, I was able to buy a Friesian calf worth $200, buy 15 chicken worth $60 and spend the balance to build chicken coops. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for the financial support since I couldn't have afforded all this on my own."

Daniel
received a $435 second payment.
"With the cows I already have, my plan is to rear them then sell them in the next one year to venture into chicken business with my partner because chicken business seems to be more reliable now than livestock due to recurring droughts."

Julius
received a $450 second payment.
"I am a mason and the bread winner of the family. My wife is a housewife and she can not do much since she has no skills which can help her secure a job. Since it has not been easy for me taking all the family responsibility with the little salary that I earn from daily hustles, I have always thought of buying my wife a Friesian cow so that she can take care of it, sell milk and earn a living. Although this has been my desire for the longest time, I have not been able to achieve it and being enrolled in the program was a dream come true. With my second transfer, I spend $400 to buy a mature cow and spend the balance to buy food for my family. I a happy happy that the income that we will earn from selling milk in the near future will supplement my small income and we will be able to handle family bills comfortably."

Benard
received a $435 second payment.
"I spend the transfers to buy a mature Friesian cow which I'm looking forward to start milking in the near future. Before I started receiving the transfers, I was working as a casual in construction sites and I was earning an average of $3. With this meager daily wage, I was not able to do much of family developments as it was only enough for basic needs. When I received my first transfers of $550, I spend part of the transfers to pay school fees as I had joined a vocational training collage to better my building skills and also earn a certificate. After getting my second transfers, I thought it was a good idea to buy a Friesian cow so that my wife will be able to sell milk in the near future and we will be able to help each other with family responsibilities."

Paul
received a second payment.
"I am a father of three sons who are in Primary school. They are in class three, five and seven. Currently I do not have a stable job since I was retrenched due to the Pandemic that hit our country recently. Paying school fees has been the greatest challenge in my family. I used the transfers to clear my sons fee balances of kshs 20,000. I used a balance of kshs 30,000 to buy two cows, this will later assist me in farming while the female one will produce milk for consumption and sale. When milk will be in excess, I will sell to take care of the family needs like food and clothing as well as paying school fees for the sons."

Riziki
received a $28 sixth payment.
"My objective in the coming year would be to have a total of about 30 goats. This would enable me to get more money to purchase cows and also help me build rental houses. I have 10 goats so far. To accomplish my dream, I plan on purchasing a goat every month. Though I've got other responsibilities, I believe that discipline and focus will get me to achieve my dream in time."
