How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am looking forward to buy some more cows in the near future so that I can double the capacity of milk production hence the income. This will mean that, I will be able to support my husband in paying school fees for our children and other family developments.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What GiveDirectly does well is uplifting and empowering the poor through giving unconditional cash transfers. I will urge them to continue doing the good work because have seen these money enable peple to take their children to school, start businesses, build houses, bought livestock ,etc. That's a job well done
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Keeping Friesian cows especially during this dry season when they need a lot of water has not been profitable as I have been spending much of the profit to buy water. To keep the business profitable and for it to thrive well, I needed to buy water tanks to harvest enough water during the rainy season to keep up with the dry season. Since I was not able to raise enough capital towards the same on my own, being enrolled in the program was a good opportunity for me. I save part of my first transfer and added to my second transfers and I was able to buy two 5,000 litres water tanks worth $350 each. I am so happy that it's already a rainy season and all these tanks have been filled by rain water and I will be able to save the money that I was using to buy water towards some other projects. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for the support.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was almost 5 pm and I was at home relaxing after finishing the day's work when I thought of checking my phone. I found out that I had a new message and I opened it. I was taken by surprise when I read that I had received KES 55000 in my mobile money account from GiveDirectly as they had promised. I was so happy on seeing this that I didn't hesitate to call my husband who was still away at work and I broke the good news to him. He was so happy too on hearing this and to keep the money safe, he asked me to transfer it to his bank account which I did promptly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The transfer has brought a big difference in our lives as a family. We have managed to collect enough water for our household and animal use and we are no longer stressed about missing water for days.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Since we had already planned how we were going to spend our transfer, we immediately executed it. We bought two water tanks which were being sold at KES 37000 each. Getting water for our household and animal use has been a big challenge since we do not have a reliable source. We usually depend on tap water that is pumped from the main river. Sometimes the water is not available for a week, reason being the pumping machine has broken. These constant reports is what has pushed us to buying the water tanks to use in collecting rain water. We had thought of buying them before but we were not able to then since we didn't have enough money. We are thus grateful to GiveDirectly because their transfer enabled us to achieve our goal.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means an improvement in my dairy farm where I will build a concrete water tank. I need this tank to store water that I occasionally receive from a government water supply project. Having enough water will boost my milk production and maintain it at about KES 40 litres per day. This will translate to about KES 1600 per day. I am keen to secure this income by having enough water all through the different drought seasons.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the last six months, my son passed his secondary examination and joined a university. It is the biggest achievement of my family as this will translate to a job when he completes the course, hence a source of income for him. This is our toil beginning to pay off. I am proud to have pushed him through i his education.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge is having enough farm inputs because of the ever-rising costs and the adverse weather conditions that continue to make water, and cattle feeds very difficultly to find. It bothers me when I cannot properly feed my cows leading to a reduction in my only source of income. Without sufficient water, my agribusiness always starts making losses. It is my main focus to do away with water shortages by constructing a huge water tank that can hold upto 6,000 liters of water.
