"Bad luck stroke my spouse and experienced expectancy difficulties. This lead to her miscarriage and underwent a Cesarean section. This was expensive and cost for us, it left us with huge hospital bills that I am still settling. This is not easy for me since I work casually as a motorbike rider earning me little money of about KES 300 daily."

"Before the transfers came in I had left the village to go to town and visit some of my relatives and unfortunately soon after I received terrible news concerning my grandson who I lived with that apparently he had been involved in an accident since the motorcycle he was riding on had collided with a car and he ended up with a broken leg. He was to be brought to town for medical attention because he also had also lost a lot of blood and since he was my responsibility I paid KES 1,000 for the visit and check ups from the doctor and for the medication and his meals I paid KES 500 for each respectively. Well as for the remainder of the money, I decided to save it for later in case of any emergencies."

"I am a motorbike rider offering taxi services in my locality to gain some income for sustaining my family. Since I have never afforded to buy a motorcycle(I am contracted by the owner), receipt of this money means that I will be able to purchase one. Currently, most of the income (60%) goes to the owner, hence, I cannot attain my financial targets. The average daily income from the business is about KES 500. So, I will use all the transfers on acquiring a brand new motorbike that costs slightly above KES 100000. In case some amount remains, we shall use it to seek professional medication for my wife who cannot conceive."

"Even though I am still buying milk every day from the nearby shopping center where I had been working as a motorcycle rider, I am glad that my hope of getting enough milk from our in-calf heifer rose after I bought it. This has brought forth the biggest difference in my daily life that has motivated me to even work harder knowing that being dependent on the casual labor to buy milk from my household won't be forever. It had been so much challenging working even during rainy seasons to satisfy both the motorcycle owner and also to get some extra coins for my family. With the heifer I bought, I am hopeful that It will soon provide us with enough milk both for my household and also a surplus to sell as an extra source of income."

"The additional asset to my homestead is the biggest difference in my life. It will be calving very soon and my family will have enough milk for consumption and sale to earn some money that I can use in meeting our basic needs. In addition, I will be alternating its breeding season with that of the one I already had so that my family will have a constant supply of milk throughout the year."

"The plans I had for this second transfer were to complete the house that I had started building using the first transfer because the house we had been living in was so small and not enough for the whole family. I also, took some of the money to service our motorcycle loan because it is my husband's occupation as he operates as a motorcycle taxi driver which is a source of income for us."

"Yes, I have a new goals that I want to achieve. Before receiving transfer from GiveDirectly, Ridding motorcycle was my only means of getting my livelihood.
I was ridding on a contract basis (work and paid) reporting 1500LD daily.
At times I covered Long distances (10 to 15 km daily) inorder to meet my target.
The motorcycle that I was ridding was not mine, It was purchased at a price of $930USD with a interest of $320 united states dollars that I supposed to paid in the period of six months inorder for me to own the bike.
However, with the help of GiveDirecly financial support, I was able to start my personal business, which I'm currently managing.
With this, My dream of giving my kids a better education will be achieved, Also the issue of financial difficulties will be minimize, Because I have a stable income."
