Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so excited when I saw the Mobile Money message from Lonestar. Initially I didn't think that it was GiveDirectly transfer. I thought it was a normal Lonestar Cell MTN message. But than, I heard a very heavy noise of my neighbors in the village jubilating about GiveDirectly money. I join the celebration after checking and seeing my transfer amount. Back than, I struggled to find my children School fees. I have two of my kids in Monrovia living with a relative who is helping to send my children to school. Due to hardship also, the person couldn't afford to pay their school fees. One of the kids is in 9th grade and the other in 10th grade. Each of them had LRD $ 5,500 to pay for just Registration. My wife and I have always wanted to give our children a better education for their future. We've also had the strong desire to buy a Land in Monrovia, build a house, leave this village and better our lives and the lives of our kids. Then, GiveDirectly change that narrative. I was able to pay all of my children school fees including the ones in Monrovia. My wife and I were also able to save some of our transfer towards buying a Land in Monrovia. This is a Joy I can't just explain.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
"I struggled! I couldn't get good meal for my family. I also couldn't pay my children school fees. I felt hopeless. But all that have changed. I was able to pay my children school fees, buy their school materials and buy enough food for the home from my first transfer. Moreover, I am saving some of the money to buy a Land for my family in Monrovia. I want to relocate to Monrovia to better the lives of my children. I believe there will be bigger opportunities for all of my kids to study at better schools and have a better education. This is the biggest difference in my daily life".
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I had lost hope of taking care of my children education. I thought our dream of giving our kids better education for the future and wanting to better our lives by buying a Land and building a house in Monrovia had been shattered because of the hardship. We couldn't get good meal to eat a day. Thanks to GiveDirectly that dream has turned to reality. I was able to paid my children school fees and saved some money to buy my land in Monrovia. I also bought some food for the home. This is how I spend my transfer.
