"I drive a motorcycle as a taxi and transport people and items to different areas so just last month I decided to venture into a new business and so I opened a store where I sold groceries like cabbages and kales, even sardines because I saw such a that most stores were quite far I decided to feel the supply and demand gap while I earned some liitle cash on the side. I put my younger in charge as I continued to work and when the money arrived I bought more stock for the shop and it cost me KES 700. As for the rest of the money I decided to buying laundry detergent at KES 200 and the remaining KES 300 I bought airtime for my phone occassionally."

"I am very happy to be visited by a Givedirectly official today. I will use this money to make some developments on my home. I will buy cement to make a new floor of my house since the floor is made of sand. I will also buy bricks to build a new fence to replace the grass fence. On top of that, I plan to start my business again. I used to sell fish whose profits I used to buy a car and a motorcycle but I made losses and the business died. I am certain that if I receive this cash I will start the business again and make more money to take care of my family."

"I have difficulties with my eyes. They are itchy and watery. I have sought aid from nearby hospitals but they keep promising to stock up the drugs I need so that they can attend to the issue.
I would have made the trip myself and bought the drugs, but I do not have money for transportation. I would need to hire a motorcycle which will cost me roughly 1000KES. Lack of money had made me endure discomfort and pain."

"Being a breadwinner to a family of 7 members has been a burden to me since my work as a motorcycle taxi rider does not earn me enough to cater to the family needs. I have desired to own a bike so that I get actively engaged in this business but due to financial instability, this has never been possible. When I heard about the arrival of GiveDirectly to our area, my hope for a better future got awakened. I am now planning to join our local merry-go-round group so that I will be saving my monthly transfers. This will enable me to have enough shares to purchase my bike after 12 months of saving. Acquiring the motorbike will mean a better change for my family status because there will be a stable source of income and hence a happy life. The remaining transfers will help me to buy food and also change my beddings which as of now are rugged. Thus, this is generally what receiving this money means to me."

""I want to build my own house for me and my family and use the remaining to educate me and my daughter if I am bless to receive a cash transfer from Givedirectly because the house I am living in is for my uncle Steven Dickson. I am a student who is about 22 years old now and in the 5th grade. Besides, I am also a mother to a three year old child who also needs to be educated. I am not working, but only attending school except my spouse who is running a commercial motorcycle to sustain us. The money he gets is not sufficient to pay me and my daughter's school fees and at the same time that we be able to save for building a house. The motor bike that my spouse is running is not for himself, bit for someone else he's working for which means it can be taken from him at any point in time. If Givedirectly can render me such a help that will enable me build my own house and use the balance for me and my daughter's school fees it will really makes me happy"."

received a $27 second payment.
"I happen to repair motorcycles for a living so when I received the money I went ahead to buy more spare parts for my shop and this included side mirrors and accelerator cables just to mention a few and this cost me around KES 1,500. Also since my father passed away some years back my mother and siblings depend on me so I went ahead and bought a bag of maize flour which contained twelve packets at KES 1,000 and this would sort out the meal situation for a while. Lastly I put KES 500 into my savings account so that I would have money on the side in case of any emergency."
