Cosmas
received a $430 second payment.
"I married early last year and being the head of a young family, I wanted to plan myself so that when I have kids, I will be able to provide for them and they will have somewhere proud to call home. Since I had a single room, I spend part of my first transfers to build some other two rooms and I needed to put a roof on it. I spend $280 of my second transfer to buy iron sheets which I used for roofing and the balance to buy a dairy cow. I am so grateful that I have a nice specious home for my family and I'm looking forward to earn some income from selling milk once the cow gives birth. I am supper grateful to GiveDirectly for the financial support."

Cynthia
received a $430 second payment.
"Receiving money from GiveDirectly was a blessing from above. This was a perfect opportunity for me to ensure that I spend the money wisely. Therefore, I thought of my four young children and their school fees needs. I aspire to see them excel in education, and this was the right time to save money. I am a tailor and my husband runs a small business. I spent my entire second transfer of $530 on purchasing a cow and a calf to secure the money. This was not easy before, due to other financial obligations. We are forever grateful for the support that lifted our living standards and thus gave us financial freedom."

Loice
received a $431 second payment.
"In the next one year, I plan to raise enough money to pay school fees for my four children. Owing to the fact that I rely almost entirely on farming and dairy keeping to raise money to meet such expenses, I might be forced to sell one asset that we own-dairy cow to help raise the much needed school fees. The drought which stayed for quite sometime delayed our farming and it is for this reason that we might struggle to pay the fee. I am however so grateful for the support that I received from GiveDirectly."

"I have put some little savings that I am planning to add some more money so that I can buy a mature dairy cow. Accomplishing this means that I will be able to get additional income from selling milk and this I will be able to cater for my family bills and expenses."

"What GiveDirectly does well is changing lives of people by giving them unconditional cash transfers and living them at liberty of choosing how to spend these transfers. By doing so, people have been able to make life changing decisions like starting small business, buying dairy cows, farming etc.."

Isaiah
received a $431 second payment.
"Juggling between paying my collage fees and providing for my young family has not been an easy task because I don't have a reliable job and I depend on casual jobs. When I was enrolled in the program I felt a bit relieved because I knew I would pay school fees arrears and buy dairy cows. With my second transfer, I spend $200 to buy a dairy calf and the balance to clear my fees arrears. I will be graduating soon and looking back, I would not have graduated were it not for the transfers because I had huge fees arrears."

Amos
received a $431 second payment.
"Having a young family, I usually struggle as much as I can to provide for them. Since I don't have reliable job, I do any kind of casual work to earn something at the end of the day so that I can be able to put food on the table. If I had the financial capability to buy livestock, life would have been more easier because I would be selling milk or the livestock to cater for family needs. Since I spend my first transfer to buy dairy cow, I spend the second transfer to buy five goats worth $300, $70 to pay debt and the balance to buy food for my family. I am now looking forward to grow my herd so that it can be income reliant in future."

Sheilar
received a $431 second payment.
"I am a peasant farmer and its been hard raising my family with the little that I get from the farm and casual work .As a mother, I was a little bit worried because my daughter will be joining high school next year and having no additional source of income, I knew it would have been a struggle to raise her school fees. I spend $350 of my second transfer to buy a mature dairy cow which will be giving birth towards the end of the year. I spend the balance to buy household items like chairs and utensils because we used to sit on the floor and we barely had utensils."

Kaptich
received a $431 second payment.
"I spend my first transfer to buy a dairy cow and I'm expecting it to give birth in two weeks time and that means in a moth's time. I will be getting about 20 litres of milk a day compered to four litres that I used to get previously from my non dairy cow. This also means an increase in income and I am planning to spend the income to build more structures for the cows and plant more napier grass since I'm planning to expand my dairy farm business."
