"The amount received was KSH 55000 and the funds enabled me to complete a number of tasks I had set. KSH 30000 was conveniently set aside to clear the arrears I had on the motorbike I use which I had not finished paying. Also being a farmer, I was able to purchase 3 goats and 5 chicken at KSH 9000 and KSH 1300 respectively. This enhanced my everyday skills of animal rearing. I was also able to buy some school uniforms for my kid worth KSH 2000 and the remainder KSH 12700 was put in savings account for future use."

"We spent KES 38000 of the recent transfer on buying a cow. We decided to buy the cow because we did not have any before. We hence used to buy milk which used to cost us a lot. I at first used to buy four liters of milk daily when my wife had given birth but with time I reduced it to two liters. We usually buy a liter at KES 50. I also took KES 5000 from the transfer money and I used it to boost my business of buying and selling chickens. The business had gone down a bit. I usually depend on this business plus that of a shop to get money for buying food for my family of six and pay school fees for my children. With the remaining amount of money, we used it in buying maize and clothes for our children. I am hence grateful to GiveDirectly for their help."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am currently able to meet my daily needs, particularly food for my family without having to hustle much. In addition, I currently own some chickens an investment for myself. Previously, I had to do charcoal burning a very tiresome activity to put food on the table."

"Upon receipt of my first transfer, I prioritized purchasing a heifer worth Kshs.25,000.I had sold all my cows towards raising school fees for my school-going children and I had been keeping one cow which I had borrowed from a friend. I also bought paints at a cost of Kshs.4,000 which I used to paint my houses since they had rusted. My houses have a new look and I am so grateful. With Kshs.7,000 I bought a barbed wire which I used to fence my farm hence no livestock can destroy my crops. I also used Kshs.4,000 to build a chicken coop which I currently keep the chicken that I had before receiving the transfer and waiting for the next transfer so that I can add more and sell eggs and chicks so earn an extra income towards payment of school fees. With the remaining amount I used to buy clothes and foodstuffs for my household members."

"I live with my 5 children and all of them are below the age of 15. I feel that for them to grow healthy and strong they need to have a proper diet. Milk being one of the staple food, I am forced to buy 3-liters for KES 45 for every liter. I am a poultry farmer and I collect 10eggs per day and eventually sell them for KES 12 for every egg. The money I get from this venture is all spent on buying food leaving me with nothing to save at the end of the day. My dream is to buy a lactating cow for KES 40000 to save me the cost of buying milk every day. I also plan to expand my poultry business by adding 10 chickens to the 12 that I already have. Receiving this money will enable me to buy a cow that will produce milk which is a good source of protein for my children."

"The money has brought a big difference to my life. I now own livestock, which I never had. I am happy that soon I will have lots of them once they multiply. It gives me a sense of joy when I know I will one day become financially stable through the chicken I bought using the transfer.  "

"I spent the recent transfer to start poultry farming by purchasing 7 chickens. Previously, I had some poultry but they all died due to chronic illness. I had wished to restart it but I lacked the financial capacity. This is my future investment which will help me whenever I encounter any financial challenge as I will be able to sell them to assist me in such a time. In addition, I spent the remaining amount to purchase enough foodstuffs for myself. I am also planning to spend my next transfer to purchase a goat."

"Last month an organization (mother to mother) from Germany came to our village with a program of rearing goats and chickens to sell. I was given the privilege of being the assistant chair lady of this program, which gave me the joy of being honored for such a post in my village. Upon every meeting, the member gives us a seating allowance which enables me to buy new clothes."

"Lacking a stable source of income makes it tough to provide food for my family on a daily basis. Therefore, Give Directly funds always save the day. Over the last three months, I spent approximately KES 1,600 from both transfers to procure food for the household. I also spent KES 2000 paying school fees for my child and am hopeful he peacefully studies without being sent out of school. Lastly, I utilized the balance to acquire two chickens that can multiply and produce earnings upon selling them."
