"The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer is that I was able to pay the school fees for my daughter who was joining university on time. I depend on the small scall farming and also do casual jobs in the village to get some money. I was not in a position to save more because of the daily needs at home. When I received the money I felt so happy, I paid the fees on time and my daughter joined the university without any problem. This gave me peace of mind to do other activities at home without any worry. I have devoted much time to farming and I sell the surplus like milk and maize then save the money to pay school fees for the next semester. My daughter was also so happy and this motivated her to work hard in the university to achieve her dreams."

"The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer is that I cleared the school fees for my daughter who was at the university. I depend on the casual jobs in the village and small scale farming to earn an income. The money that I could get was so small and was not enough to pay the school fees. My daughter was almost deferring from his studies due to no money. When I received the money from GiveDirectly I cleared the school fees and she was able to sit for her final university exams. I am so happy now that she has completed her studies and graduated. I no longer have stress like before, I have devoted my time to my small dairy farming as she is now searching for a job."

"The biggest differennce in my daily life is that I have been able to provide the daily needs for my family such as food. Before, I used to pester my children oftenly to to help us meet these needs. This wasn't a good practise but since I had no other option, I had to do. I am glad that these transfers saved the good relationship with my children because I rarely ask then for money nowadays unless in need. The transfers also help us with my grand children's school fees."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now live in a semi permanent house that I built using the transfers. I was able to save some part of the monthly transfers and put up the house. I initially lived in a mud-walled grass thatched house but with the kind of maintainance it needs, I couldnt manage it anymore. I still use the hut though as a kitchen but I will soon do away with it. I m also happy that I am able to chip in and pay some of my granddaughter's school fees."

"My biggest hardship is lack of finances to keep my children in school. I'm a stay at home mum depending on my eldest son to provide for me and his siblings. This has been a huge financial burden on him especially the secondary school fees for his brother. His brother has had to skip school a few times for lack of fees."
