"When I received my first transfer, I spent KES 43000 to buy a dairy cow. We settled on this as a family since we did not have any and it is also an asset that we can rely on in case of a financial crisis. In addition, it is an investment to us since we will be earning some money through the sale of milk and we can always use it to buy some basic needs for our family. Apart from this, I spent KES 3200 to buy one sack of maize for consumption, used KES 3000 to buy some decent clothes for my family, and spent KES 2100 to buy six pieces of seat cushions since we did not have any. I still have KES 2300 that I am planning to use in hiring a tractor for land preparation purposes. I am happy that GiveDirectly gave us the liberty to spend this money however we want to." "When I'm qualified to received Give Directly transfer, I plan to build my own house and put the remaining in dry goods business. Right now the house we are living in is my husband brother's house and we were just given a room to stay, It has always been our dream to build our own house that our children will get assess to their own room; but because of the little income we get from subsistence farming, we have not been able to fulfill our dream. When I'm able to get into this business it will also help us to sponsor our children in school continuously because none of our children had been opportune to sit in class since their birth." "When I'm qualified to received the cash transfer I will build my own house, and used the remaining one to sell bread. It has been my dream to build my own house for my household to live independently, but because of the little income from the produce we get from the farm I have not been able to fulfill my dream. My husband has three wives and he focuses on the other two more than me, for that; I have to stay with my children in my father's house. With the business I will be able to sponsor my children in school and provide their daily needs." (Occupation: Small business)

"If I'm successfully enrolled in to Give Directly's cash transfer program, I have two major things that I want to do with my money. Firstly, I want to make a business to enable me pay my children school fees and Secondly, if the money is sufficient to build house, I will start buying my house materials and later try to build my own house for my children and myself, since their father and I are no longer together."

"If we( my household) is successful to receive this transfer, we will buy motor bike for my husband to run as traffic bike to support the home. We have made this planed long time to buy motor bike for the purpose explained above, but we have not had money to implement that. The sticks we cut from the Bush, sell to have money for that purpose price has dropped drastically. And the little money we realised from the sale , we are not able to keep all because the family has to survive. Meaning we used most of the money for the family up keeping. SO, if we are successful to receive the cash from GD when we are successful, this will be a huge opportunity for us to implement our long time anticipated business plan." (Occupation: Small business)

"If I'm successful to receive this transfer, I will use some to build my own house, start a business inorder to sustain my family and pay school fees for my three children in secondary School. Three (3) out of six (6) of my children have been out of school for one year due to financial constraints. Even though I make farm to cater to my family, but the money I earned is not enough to send all my six children to school and build my own house. The money I earned from the farm is what I spend on food and pay three of my children school fees. The structure I live in is my spouse grandfather house, the family is insisting that we leave the house. I want to build my own house and send my three children back to school but there's no money."

""Those challenges I'm facing now are, 'One', I don't have my own house to lay my head, reason being, we're two on one man, so the money I can get from him isn't much; also, when I do my cassava harvesting it doesn't earn much because we have lot of people selling this same cassava market, and if I price the goods the buyers normally beg me to lower the price to the point that I can't accumulate much, on the other hand, if you say no to the buyers your goods might leave in your hands and sometimes spoil. 'Two', the farm work is too hard and unstable, so I want to do a stable dried goods business like selling rice, vita and other small small things which will enable me sustain I and my family.""

"If I am successful to receive the transfer, I will invest it into business. I have made a plan long time to make business, but I had never had money for that. And the business is to go to Monrovia, buy rice, pepper, salt bags and other table market things, bring same here in this town and sale them retail ( by cup). I decided to do this particular business because it is fast going here; and got more profits. The cassava pitch I made to to sale and have money to invest into the business that I have planed to do , such cassava don't have good price in the market these days. Besides, the cassava pitch work is a hard( difficult) work for me. As such, I have made this plan long time to get into business so as to have some rest of the body from the too much physical work. And fortunately for me, GD is here today and has promised to send me transfer when I am successful in the processes that were explained to me in the meeting."

"The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 9:08 am. I was at my shop doing some cleaning when I heard a message tone from my phone. I reluctantly check it out. I could not believe my eyes, it was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy because I knew I would be able to add stock to my agro-vet business. I immediately inform my spouse and he was so happy too. We went and withdrew the money that day."
